In this role, you will contribute to high-value engineering work supporting operating plants, long-term operation, inspection planning, repair evaluations, and plant-specific technical justifications. You will work with experienced nuclear engineers across fracture mechanics, materials, stress analysis, design, and licensing to develop technically sound and practical solutions for complex plant conditions.
We are looking for someone who has experience in structural analysis, with a strong background in fracture analysis. You will perform structural and fracture analyses for the commercial Nuclear Energy Industry using finite element analyses and hand calculations. You will perform analyses such as evaluating the effects of weld residual stresses on pressure boundary components as well as calculate crack growth life and critical crack sizes. Preferred skills include: Fundamental knowledge of elasticity, plasticity, and failure in metallic materials Fundamental knowledge of crack growth models and crack growth cases Knowledge of low and high cycle fatigue and fracture mechanics theory and application.
What You'll Do Day-To-Day
  • Performs non-standard engineering, varied engineering, and new-to-you assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems and resolution of quality events.
  • Receives minimal assistance and instruction and works autonomously on most assignments and solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with government regulations, organization, industry and customer engineering standards.
  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making adaptations and modifications for tasks not previously performed.
  • Continues to develop knowledge of organization, processes and customers.
  • Works on special projects, as directed.
  • Provides suggestions for improving processes and implementing process improvements.
  • Maintain a safety mindset.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.
    • Dependent on the position, degrees in Physics, Engineering Technology and Engineering Science may also be accepted.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships; work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Displays informal leadership characteristics.
  • Exhibits questioning attitude and practices self-checking.
  • Relevant experience or academic background in fracture mechanics, structural integrity, stress analysis, fatigue, materials engineering, or nuclear engineering.
  • Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals related to stress analysis, fracture mechanics, materials behavior, and structural performance.
  • Familiarity with engineering codes and standards, particularly ASME B&PV Code Section XI, and with analytical methods used in the nuclear industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ANSYS is desired; experience with ABAQUS is an asset.
  • Experience with analytical and numerical tools such as finite element analysis software, MathCAD, Python, or Excel-based engineering calculations is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, technically sound documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to apply sound engineering judgment in a technically rigorous environment.
  • Interest in continued technical development in fracture mechanics, structural integrity, and nuclear plant applications.

  • Salary: $100,000 - $110,000, and may also include annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
