What is an entry level startup?

An Entry Level Startup job is a position at a new or early-stage company designed for individuals with little to no prior professional experience. These roles often require adaptability, creativity, and a willingness to take on diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment. Employees in these positions may work on marketing, product development, customer support, or operations, depending on the company's needs. Because startups are typically small and dynamic, entry-level employees have the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills and grow quickly in their careers.

What types of tasks and responsibilities can I expect in an entry level startup position?

In an entry-level startup role, your daily tasks can vary widely and may include supporting product development, assisting with market research, organizing team meetings, or handling customer inquiries, depending on the specific needs of the company. You'll likely collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing input and support where it’s needed most, which helps you build a broad skill set. It's common to wear multiple hats, so flexibility and a willingness to learn new processes are important. This dynamic work environment offers a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience, quickly build your professional network, and potentially grow into more specialized roles as the startup expands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the entry level startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an entry-level role at a startup, you need a mix of analytical skills, adaptability, and a proactive attitude, usually supported by a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools like Slack, project management platforms (such as Trello or Asana), spreadsheets, and basic marketing or coding platforms can be valuable depending on the startup’s focus. Strong communication, resilience in fast-changing environments, and collaborative problem-solving help you stand out. These abilities are essential because startups often require team members to quickly learn new skills, adapt to shifting priorities, and contribute broadly to dynamic projects.

Job description

IT Support Technician – Entry Level
E-Commerce & Book Retail
$23.00-$25.00 per hour
Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm
Columbus, Ohio (onsite)
Temp to Hire

Why You’ll Love This Job:
  • A great landing spot for a recent IT grad – structured, hands-on, and built for someone early in their career who wants to grow fast
  • Real exposure to a broad technology environment – Windows workstations, Active Directory, networking, firewalls, virtual machines, and more as you develop
  • You’ll actually be trusted with meaningful work from day one – not shadowing someone for months

What You’ll Do:
  • Serve as the first line of IT support for warehouse technology – responding to issues with computers, printers, scanners, handheld devices, and web-based workflows
  • Troubleshoot Windows workstations including startup, login, browser, printing, and connectivity issues
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain label scanners, thermal label printers, HP/Brother printers, and related peripherals
  • Support wireless handheld devices used for warehouse operations – connectivity, login, browser, and device checks
  • Assist with basic network tasks – patch cables, Wi-Fi checks, equipment reboots, and visual inspections – under the direction of senior IT staff
  • Set up and relocate computers and equipment as warehouse work areas change
  • Document symptoms, troubleshooting steps, outcomes, and recurring issues to help the team resolve problems faster over time
  • Keep warehouse users and IT staff informed when issues affect productivity or require escalation

What We’re Looking For:
  • Basic familiarity with Windows computers, web browsers, user logins, printers, and simple connectivity concepts
  • Logical troubleshooting mindset – observe, ask questions, test one change at a time, document the result, escalate when needed
  • Dependable, punctual, and service-oriented – you genuinely want to help people get back to work
  • Able to listen carefully, follow documented steps, retain training, and apply it consistently going forward
  • Clear written and verbal communication – you can explain what happened and what you already tried
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a warehouse environment with computers, cables, and peripherals
  • Prior help desk, technical support, or retail technology experience is a plus – as is CompTIA A+ coursework or certification – but neither is required
