Entry-Level Software Developer

At IXRF Systems, we design and manufacture stand-alone high-end X-ray microanalysis systems. Our work sits at the intersection of software, hardware, and science, and we are looking for someone who is curious, thoughtful, and excited to learn.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for an early-career developer who wants to grow in a hands-on, technical environment. You will work closely with engineers and scientists to help build, test, maintain, and improve software used in scientific instruments. We do not expect you to know everything on day one. We are more interested in how you think through problems, ask questions, learn from feedback, and contribute to a small team.

What You’ll Do
  • Help develop, test, and improve software features for X-ray microanalysis applications.
  • Debug issues, investigate root causes, and think through practical solutions with support from the team.
  • Support continuous integration and long-term product quality.
  • Assist with refactoring legacy code to make it cleaner, easier to maintain, and aligned with current standards.
  • Work closely with a small team where priorities may shift and good communication matters.
  • Build familiarity with the scientific equipment, customer needs, and technical constraints behind the software.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Basic understanding of software engineering fundamentals and object-oriented programming.
  • Experience with C++ or a strong interest in learning it.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to break down unfamiliar problems step by step.
  • Curiosity, patience, and a willingness to ask questions and learn from others.
  • Comfortable working on a small team where collaboration, flexibility, and ownership are important.
  • Ability to communicate clearly when something is unclear, blocked, or needs a second look.
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with Windows software development or GUI frameworks such as MFC.
  • Interest in hardware, electronics, lab equipment, or scientific applications.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic circuits, components, or hardware interaction APIs.
  • Comfortable with core math concepts such as algebra, calculus, or linear algebra, especially when applying them to practical problem-solving.
