Covia has an immediate opening for a Logistics Coordinator based in our Independence, OH location. The  Logistics Coordinator will support truck and rail logistics activities for Covia production facilities. This entry-level role will assist with truck coordination, plant rail demurrage invoices, loaded railcar monitoring, and communication of rail service issues to internal stakeholders. The position will also support day-to-day logistics needs for a group of rail-served plants while developing practical experience in transportation, supply chain, and customer support.

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist with coordinating trucks for plants, terminals, and customer needs as directed
  • Negotiate and obtain trucking freight rates in support of sales activities.
  • Support communication with truck carriers, internal teams, and other logistics contacts to help resolve transportation issues
  • Review, organize, and process plant rail demurrage invoices, escalating discrepancies or questions as needed
  • Monitor loaded railcar pipelines and provide updates on railcar status, delays, and service concerns
  • Support logistics activities for a subset of Covia’s rail-served plants in the U.S. and Canada. Key tasks include shipment coordination with Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and railroads
  • Communicate rail issues internally and help ensure timely visibility to impacted teams
  • Maintain accurate records related to railcar movement, demurrage, trucking activity, and logistics follow-up items
  • Assist with basic logistics reporting and tracking as requested
  • Participate in internal meetings and calls representing Logistics & Supply Chain as needed
  • Maintain close working relationships with Customer Service, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics team members
  • Support process improvement efforts related to rail and truck coordination
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or a related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, customer service, operations, or related field preferred
  • Aptitude for learning truck and rail transportation including the movement and handling of bulk commodities. Additional aptitude for understanding the interaction of logistics services and plant operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to share updates clearly and professionally
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, with the ability to follow up on open items and maintain accurate records unprompted.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
  • Comfortable working with internal teams including Customer Service, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Experience with TMS, ERP, rail tracking systems, or invoice processing systems preferred but not required
  • Self-motivated team player with a willingness to learn and take direction
  • Judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work extended hours on occasion when necessary
  • Travel requirement 5–10%
