How much do entry level space systems engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry level space systems engineer in the United States is $127,215.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $98,000.00 and $157,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Highly experienced space systems engineers, especially those in senior roles or with specialized expertise in satellite systems, spacecraft design, or aerospace project management, can earn salaries approaching or exceeding $300,000 annually. Achieving this level typically requires advanced degrees, extensive experience, and often leadership responsibilities or working in high-cost regions.

What are entry level jobs at SpaceX?

Entry level space systems engineering roles at SpaceX typically include positions such as Associate Systems Engineer or Junior Space Systems Engineer. These roles often require a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, and candidates may work on spacecraft design, integration, and testing under supervision. Skills in systems engineering tools and knowledge of space hardware are beneficial for these positions.

What is the difference between Entry Level Space Systems Engineer vs Satellite Systems Engineer?

AspectEntry Level Space Systems EngineerSatellite Systems Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in aerospace, electrical, or systems engineeringBachelor's in electrical, aerospace, or systems engineering
Work EnvironmentDesign, develop, and test space systems in labs or on-site at aerospace companiesDesign and maintain satellite systems, often in aerospace or defense sectors
Industry UsagePrimarily in space agencies, aerospace firms, and defense contractorsIn satellite manufacturing, telecommunications, and defense industries

Entry Level Space Systems Engineers and Satellite Systems Engineers share similar educational backgrounds and work environments, focusing on designing and testing space or satellite systems. The main difference lies in their specific focus areas: space systems engineers work on broader space missions and spacecraft, while satellite systems engineers specialize in satellite technology and operations.

Is 3.3 a good GPA for aerospace engineering?

For an entry-level space systems engineer, a GPA of 3.3 is generally considered acceptable but may be below the competitive range for some employers who often prefer GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Strong technical skills, relevant internships, and certifications can also significantly impact job prospects in aerospace engineering. Demonstrating practical experience and proficiency with tools like MATLAB or CAD can help offset a lower GPA.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

While most entry-level space systems engineers do not earn that level of salary, senior engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and leadership roles in aerospace or defense companies can reach or exceed $500,000 annually through base pay, bonuses, and profit sharing. High compensation is often associated with executive positions or highly specialized technical roles in the industry.
