Job description

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The LVT Learning & Enablement team is seeking a proactive Technical Writer to create and maintain high-quality documentation across our hardware and software ecosystems. In this role, you'll partner directly with product managers, hardware engineers, software developers, and field teams to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable guides for internal teams and external customers. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment where curiosity and attention to detail drive continuous improvement. This role is based full-time in-office out of our Headquarters in American Fork, Utah.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Draft, edit, and maintain hardware technical documentation, including field installation guides, preventive maintenance manuals, and hardware troubleshooting procedures.
  • Work directly on-site at our manufacturing and fabrication facilities, conducting hands-on teardowns and observations of mobile solar units, mast assemblies, power subsystems, and camera/sensor payloads.
  • Review and reference engineering drawings, CAD models (SolidWorks), BOMs, and ECOs under engineer guidance to verify that documentation aligns with hardware baselines.
  • Draft and format single-source content within Component Content Management Systems (CCMS) like Paligo or MadCap Flare, following established structural templates.
  • Partner with hardware engineering and safety teams to draft regulatory compliance, electrical safety, and physical deployment standards.
  • Develop clear visual documentation by capturing photos, annotating mechanical schematics, and creating exploded view diagrams in collaboration with visual designers.
  • Plan and execute end-to-end media creation for technical documentation-including scoping video shoots, editing instructional footage, and establishing rigorous visual standards to ensure all hardware procedures follow clear, repeatable steps.
  • Establish content performance metrics and feedback channels with field operations and customer support to identify documentation gaps, reduce support ticket volume, and lower field service error rates.
  • Translate complex electro-mechanical concepts and hardware specifications into standardized, easy-to-follow procedures for installation and field service teams.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting hardware products in a fast-growing technology environment.
  • Technical Writing Proficiency: Hands-on experience with structured authoring tools (CCMS such as Paligo, MadCap Flare, or Arbortext).
  • Technical Media Proficiency: Familiarity with video capture equipment, lighting/audio setup in industrial settings, and non-linear video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, Final Cut Pro).
  • Hardware Familiarity: Comfortable interpreting engineering documentation, CAD files, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and engineering outlines.
  • Autonomous & Proactive: Ability to execute assigned documentation projects under general supervision, asking clarifying questions when encountering ambiguous specifications
  • Cross-Functional Communicator: Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills; confident advocating for the end-user perspective alongside developers and engineers.
  • Naturally Curious: A drive to deeply understand how products work under the hood and a passion for advocating for customer clarity over internal jargon.
