Entry Level Software Engineer Startup information

How do I get into software engineering with no experience?

Entry level software engineers can start by learning programming languages like Python or Java through online courses and practicing coding skills. Building a portfolio with personal projects, contributing to open-source, and gaining familiarity with tools like Git can improve employability. Internships or apprenticeships also provide practical experience and industry exposure.

How to start a startup as a software engineer?

A software engineer interested in starting a startup should identify a market need, develop a minimum viable product (MVP), and leverage programming skills to build the initial version. Gaining knowledge of business fundamentals, such as product management and funding options, can also support startup success.

Is it true that AI will replace software engineers?

AI tools can automate certain coding tasks and improve efficiency for entry-level software engineers, but they are unlikely to fully replace the need for human developers. Software engineering requires problem-solving, creativity, and understanding of complex systems that AI cannot fully replicate. Therefore, AI is more likely to augment rather than replace software engineers in startup environments.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

In the software engineering field, very few entry-level roles reach a $500,000 annual salary. Such high compensation typically occurs at senior levels or in specialized roles like software architects, machine learning engineers, or those working at large tech companies with stock options and bonuses. Entry-level software engineers at startups generally earn significantly less, often between $70,000 and $120,000 annually.

Job description

Salary: $70,000 to $125,000

Forward Deployed Engineer

Atonom.ai | In-Office | Full-Time

About Atonom

Atonom.ai is building the world's first true Cloud Employees: AI agents that execute real work across Sales, Marketing, Support, and HR. We believe growth should be limited by ambition, not headcount. We are past the automation era. We are in the era of genuine machine autonomy, and we are building the infrastructure for it.

About the Role

Most engineers build products in the background. Forward Deployed Engineers at Atonom are different. You are in the room with the customer, at every stage that matters.

You are the technical credibility that helps close deals and the hands-on engineer who makes sure implementations actually work. When an account executive is in front of a prospect and the conversation turns technical, you are the person they call. When a deal closes, you own everything from kickoff through go-live and carry the account through the 90-day onboarding window. At that point you make a clean handoff to the customer success team and move on to the next one.

This is not a behind-the-desk engineering role. It is not a pure sales role either. It sits squarely between the two, and it requires someone who is as comfortable presenting to a room as they are debugging a configuration. If that combination sounds like you, read on.

How You Will Spend Your Time

During the sales process

  • Join account executives on calls and demos when technical questions arise or when a prospect needs to see the product at a deeper level.
  • Translate what Atonom does into terms that resonate with technical buyers, IT stakeholders, and operations leads.
  • Run product demonstrations that show prospects exactly how Atonom will work inside their business.
  • Surface implementation complexity early so the AE can set accurate expectations before the deal closes.

During implementation and onboarding

  • Own the implementation from contract signature through go-live. You are the customer's primary technical point of contact for setup, configuration, and getting their Atonom Cloud Employees running.
  • Use Atonom's own product to support and accelerate the onboarding process. You will be working with the tools you help sell, not around them.
  • Guide customers through the 90-day onboarding window, making sure they are seeing value and resolving anything that gets in the way.
  • Make a clean handoff to the product specialist in customer success at the end of the onboarding period, with documentation and context that sets the customer up to succeed long term.

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
  • You are genuinely comfortable in customer-facing situations. Presenting to a room, navigating a tough technical question live, or delivering news a customer does not want to hear does not throw you off.
  • You have a working understanding of how software is built, how APIs connect systems, and how business operations run day to day. You do not need to write production code, but you need to understand the technical landscape well enough to configure, troubleshoot, and explain.
  • You are organized and accountable. You can manage multiple implementations in parallel without things falling through the cracks.
  • You pick up new tools quickly and you are comfortable using AI-powered software to get work done faster. At Atonom, that is not optional, it is how the job works.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a forward deployed, solutions engineering, or technical implementation role
  • Familiarity with CRM, business automation, or workflow platforms
  • Exposure to AI tools or AI-powered software products
  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment where the playbook is still being written

Why Atonom

  • You will work with one of the most interesting products in AI right now and you will use it to do your own job, not just implement it for others.
  • This role has a direct line to customer outcomes. When your implementations go well, you see it and you are rewarded for it.
  • A team that moves fast and trusts people to make decisions. You will not need three approvals to help a customer.
  • Real career growth into senior forward deployed engineering, customer success leadership, or product roles as Atonom scales.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $70,000 - $125,000 based on experience
  • Performance bonus tied to customer retention through the onboarding period
  • PTO accrual from day 1
  • Competitive health benefits package
  • Paid holidays
