Entry Level Software Engineer 150K information

What is an entry level software engineer?

An Entry Level Software Engineer is someone who has recently started their career in software development, usually with less than two years of professional experience. They are responsible for writing code, fixing bugs, and assisting with software design under the guidance of more experienced engineers. While the typical starting salary for this role is often lower, in high-cost-of-living areas like San Francisco or New York City, or at top tech companies, total compensation packages (including salary, bonuses, and equity) can reach or exceed $150K. However, these higher salaries are competitive and may require strong academic backgrounds, internships, or specialized skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level software engineer?

To thrive as an Entry Level Software Engineer, you need a solid grounding in programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), software development fundamentals, and at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and modern software frameworks is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective teamwork, and willingness to learn make candidates stand out in this role. These skills are critical for delivering high-quality code, collaborating on projects, and adapting to rapidly changing technology environments.

What can an entry level software engineer earning a high starting salary expect in terms of performance expectations and workload?

Entry level software engineers offered higher-than-average starting salaries, such as $150K, can expect elevated performance expectations and a fast-paced work environment. These roles often require quickly ramping up on complex codebases, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills, and delivering high-quality code efficiently. You may participate in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and cross-functional collaboration with product and design teams. Proactive communication, willingness to seek feedback, and continuous learning are key to thriving and advancing in such competitive positions.

What is the difference between Entry Level Software Engineer 150K vs Junior Software Developer?

What we'd like to see from you:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, or Computer Engineering
Experience/Requirements:
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience in industrial control systems or a related technical field.
  • Prior internships, co-op assignments, or project experience in control systems, automation, or related engineering fields are highly desirable.
  • Exposure to PLC, DCS, or industrial automation platforms through coursework, internships, or academic projects.
  • Basic understanding of engineering documentation such as schematics, P&IDs, or system diagrams.
  • Strong willingness to learn, ask questions, and develop technical depth over time.
