Job Description
General Functions :
The Orange County Public Works Department is dedicated to enhancing the safety, mobility, and quality of life for our community by planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining the County's transportation and stormwater infrastructure. The Public Works Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team delivers solutions that support transportation, traffic, stormwater management, and capital improvement projects. The team develops applications, performs spatial analysis, supports field operations and emergency response, and provides data-driven solutions that improve decision-making and service delivery. The Public Works GIS team is part of Orange County's larger centralized GIS team, providing specialized departmental support while leveraging enterprise GIS resources, standards, and expertise across the County.
The GIS Student Intern is an entry-level position that supports the Public Works GIS team with daily operations and GIS projects. Responsibilities include editing and maintaining GIS data, producing maps, performing data quality control, assisting with GIS analysis, and providing technical support.
Work is performed under the general direction of the GIS Supervisor or an assigned mentor while gaining practical experience with enterprise GIS applications and technologies.

Minimum Qualifications :
Currently pursuing undergraduate or master's degree in geography, cartography, planning, engineering, computer science, transportation, environmental study, or a related field.
Preferences :
Experience using Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, including web maps, hosted feature layers, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Field Maps, and related Esri applications.
Completion of at least 30 semester credit hours toward a degree in GIS or a closely related field is preferred.
