Entry Level Simulation Software Engineer information

What does an Entry Level Simulation Software Engineer do?

An Entry Level Simulation Software Engineer develops and tests software that models real-world systems, such as physical processes, engineering designs, or virtual environments. They typically work under the guidance of senior engineers to write code, run simulations, analyze results, and troubleshoot issues. Their work helps organizations predict system behavior, optimize designs, and reduce the need for costly physical prototypes. This role often involves programming, understanding mathematical models, and collaborating with other engineering teams.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level simulation software engineers, and how can they be overcome?

Entry level simulation software engineers often encounter challenges such as understanding complex simulation models, learning industry-specific tools, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. To overcome these hurdles, it's helpful to actively seek mentorship from senior engineers, participate in team meetings to gain context, and dedicate time to hands-on practice with simulation tools. Regular communication with team members and taking advantage of available documentation can also accelerate learning and integration into the workflow.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Simulation Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Simulation Software Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, mathematics, and programming languages such as C++, Python, or Java, typically supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with simulation frameworks, modeling tools (like MATLAB or Simulink), and version control systems (such as Git) is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills for this role. These abilities enable engineers to develop accurate, efficient simulations and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams, ensuring successful project outcomes.

At Lockheed Martin, we are passionate about innovation and integrity. We believe that by applying the highest standards of business ethics and forward-thinking, everything is within our capacity - and yours as a Lockheed Martin employee.
Here at Lockheed Martin, we are working on many exciting programs and developing cutting edge products and applications to meet the complex and evolving needs of our customers. We are looking for talented software engineers to join our team, working with other engineering disciplines to help develop best-in-class products and solutions.
The Work
This position is for a Software Engineer to support training systems sustainment and development for C-130J, CV-22, other high fidelity Aircrew Training Devices (ATDs), and the Mission Rehearsal Operation Center (MROC). The successful candidate will be flexible, motivated, dedicated, detail-focused, team oriented, and capable of multi-tasking. Keeping up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools will be encouraged. We offer a continuous learning environment with strong career growth and advancement opportunities over the long-term.
This position is located at customer facilities at Hurlburt Field, Florida and may require occasional travel including both CONUS and OCONUS destinations.
As a member of our Software Engineer team you will:
Work within an integrated product team of Hardware, Software, Systems, and Test Engineers to maintain and update Air Force Flight Simulators and the MROC
Provide development, integration, and sustainment support for the Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) mission rehearsal systems.
Support LVC Mission Rehearsals. Deploy and configure live, virtual, and constructive environments for scheduled rehearsals. Monitor system health, troubleshoot runtime issues, and provide rapid resolution during exercises.
Develop software solutions for flight simulators and the MROC
Integrate new technologies into various systems
Support requirements analysis, design, development, integration and test of real-time software
This position will require the selected candidate to have or obtain an Interim Secret level U.S. government security clearance before starting with Lockheed Martin. U.S. citizenship is a requirement for consideration.
Who We Are
We are a collaborative team of software engineers and interdisciplinary subject matter experts dedicated to analyzing and documenting software requirements in order to design, develop, and integrate training systems solutions.
We create unparalleled readiness today and into the future, no matter what the mission may be here at Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems.
Who You Are
You thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment and are committed to delivering best-in-class products and solutions.
Why Join Us
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we're building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship.
We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
