Job description

Position Title: Branch Assistant
Reports to: Branch Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Job Summary
The Branch Assistant provides comprehensive operational support across the branch, including warehouse, yard, fleet, and sign shop functions. This role assists with the design, production, and application of signage while also supporting inventory management, equipment maintenance, customer service, and general branch operations. The position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can work across multiple functions in a fast-paced environment.
Sign Shop Operations
  • Assist in the design, layout, and production of custom and MUTCD-compliant signage
  • Operate sign shop equipment to print, cut, and prepare signs and graphics
  • Apply decals and graphics to vehicles, equipment, and traffic control devices
  • Collaborate with estimating and project management teams to produce job-specific signage
  • Follow production schedules and deadlines using the sign shop calendar
  • Maintain sign inventory and order materials as needed

Warehouse & Yard Operations
  • Load, unload, and organize materials, equipment, and deliveries
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts
  • Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on rental and service equipment
  • Ensure warehouse safety procedures are followed in compliance with OSHA
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse and yard

Fleet & Equipment Support
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and maintain fleet records
  • Track mileage logs and truck inventory
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, radios, and equipment
  • Operate vehicles, trailers, and traffic control equipment safely

Permits, Field Support & Operations
  • Assist with posting and picking up "No Parking" signs
  • Support permit processing, including delivery and pickup of plans and documents
  • Participate in after-hours or emergency response work as needed

Customer Service & Sales Support
  • Provide basic customer service support at the branch counter
  • Assist with rentals, sales, and maintaining showroom organization
  • Act as backup support for Customer Service Representatives when needed

Required Knowledge
  • Basic understanding of MUTCD standards and traffic control signage
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory practices, and safety procedures
  • Familiarity with sign design software (e.g., FlexiSign or similar)
  • Basic construction tools and equipment usage
  • General knowledge of traffic control products and equipment

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize across multiple operational areas
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment

Equipment Operated
  • Sign shop equipment (HP DesignJet Printer, Graphtec cutter, laminator, substrate cutter)
  • Hand and power tools
  • Forklifts (with training)
  • Company vehicles, trucks, trailers, and traffic control devices

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Frequent manual and repetitive tasks
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to construction environments, moving equipment, and moderate noise levels

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of related experience in warehouse, sign shop, or construction support preferred
