Job description

Digital Accessibility Specialist
Harrisburg, PA/Hybrid
Coming into the office 1 or 2 days a week. The day(s) can be discussed during the interview.

Regarding interviews- Initial is via Teams. If there are second interviews, PSERS prefers that they be in-person (5 North 5th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101).
Regarding work setup- PSERS prefers the position to be hybrid, coming into the office 1 or 2 days a week. The day(s) can be discussed during the interview.
The resource will be full-time through 6/30/2026, with the possibility to extend beyond the end of the current fiscal year.
The Digital Accessibility Specialist will support a PSERS accessibility initiative by evaluating, testing, remediating, and creating digital content to ensure compliance with digital accessibility regulations and requirements. The Specialist will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and remediate digital documents (including forms, PDFs, and other formats) to meet guidelines and standards.
  • Conduct both manual and automated tests to verify compliance.
  • Apply established testing methodologies, including keyboard-only navigation, screen reader testing, and use of other assistive technologies.
  • Utilize automated accessibility testing tools, manual testing methodologies (keyboard, screen reader, etc.) and assistive technologies (e.g., JAWS).
  • Track and clearly document all testing and remediation processes and results.
  • Performs related work as required.

Years of Relevant Experience
  • 2 years digital accessibility testing, remediation, and digital content creation.

Preferred Education
  • 2-year college degree or equivalent technical study.

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and disability inclusion.
  • Knowledge of usability principles and user-centered design
  • Understanding of the current version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and the Revised Section 508 Standards
  • Ability to test using accessibility evaluation tools and frameworks (e.g., accessibility inspectors) for mobile and non-mobile platforms
  • Experience with assistive technologies (e.g., JAWS, VoiceOver, Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText), color contrast analyzer
  • Experience using automated accessibility testing tools
  • Ability to self-direct creation of test plans to include documentation of test strategies and cases, test results, and remediation recommendations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Adept at liaising with multiple stakeholders
  • Effective verbal and written communications
