Composite Power Group has operated as an electrical utility sales representative for over 45 years. Our sales team takes the initiative to connect the suppliers in our portfolio with companies building the grid. We focus on the sale of equipment for high-voltage distribution lines, transmission lines, and substations, and we work with industry-leading suppliers that are committed to innovation and to doing business in Canada.ย ย 

We are a growing company with a national presence and manage a large sales portfolio. We offer our team independence and autonomy in decision-making to develop long-term, trust-based partnerships with our customers and suppliers.

We are currently looking for a dynamic, well-organized, and highly motivated candidate who will help the company continue its growth by providing outstanding inside sales and customer service support.ย  We are offering this candidate the opportunity to join a dynamic team; to learn new products that are used in substations and on power transmission and distribution lines from 600 V to 765,000V; and to evolve in an environment where we value teamwork, respect, learning/training, trust, accountability, and unparalleled customer service.ย 

Details of the position

Type:ย Full-time, Permanent

Compensation range:ย 70,000 CAD - 95,000 CAD annually

Compensation comprises a base salary, benefits and participation in the company's profit-sharing program

Location: Western Canada, with preference toย Calgary Metropolitan Region,ย Greater Edmonton Area,ย Winnipeg Metropolitan Region, or Greater Vancouver Area.

The successful candidate will operate from a home office in one of these areas.

Travel:ย Must be willing and able to travel throughout Western Canadian provinces, and occasionally into other parts of Canada and the US.

This is not a fully remote position. The successful candidate will be required to attend customer sales calls, site visits, trade shows, and team meetings in Western Canada, and occasionally in other parts of Canada.

Key Responsibilities:ย 

With the support of our manufacturing partners and other members of the Composite Power Group team:ย 

  • Manage day-to-day customer inquiries (RFQ, RFP, customer service requests) for assigned accounts.
  • Utilize our customer relationship management (CRM) software to prepare quotes or offers to clientele for day-to-day business or large project bids.
  • Follow Composite Power Group's sales and customer service business models to cover all bases of successful sales and customer service activity.
  • Prepare and submit timely quotations and proposals, ensuring both customer satisfaction and the interests of Composite Power Group.
  • Follow up on submitted quotations and proposals, and negotiate pricing as needed.
  • Acknowledge and process purchase orders received both directly and indirectly on behalf of our Vendors.
  • Build collaborative, long-term, trusting relationships with key clients and industry-leading manufacturing partners.ย 
  • Contribute to a winning team environment through personal actions and a commitment to corporate values.
  • Strive to meet team and individual sales objectives through client service/relationship excellence.ย 
  • Travel occasionally.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or Diploma of College Studies or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of direct experience in the electric utility industry or other relevant experience.
  • Technically sound, preferably with complementary product experience (substation, transmission, distribution).
  • Knowledge of various procurement channels within the high voltage electric utility industry.
  • Ability to analyze a single line diagram preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, bills of materials, specifications and standards is preferred.
  • Excellent technology literacy - working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365 (particularly Excel), Android and/or IOS,ย CRM.ย 
  • Self-motivated, very well organized, meticulous and able to work autonomously.
  • Demonstrated ability to build lasting customer relationships.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in business, market, and competitive environments.ย ย 
  • Existing customer or client relationships with electric utilities, engineering firms and /or contractors in Quebec and the Atlantic provincesย are considered assets.ย ย 
  • A good understanding of Salesforce.com or equivalent CRM softwareย is considered an asset.ย 
  • Ability to travel to the USA: applicant must be able to make travel arrangements quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to visit construction sites: read and understand blueprints, construction safety plans, and quality plans and follow written and verbal instructions from the construction site managers.
