Overview:
Sentara is currently hiring a Safety Partner to work at Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk.
Hours/Shift:
Full-time, weekend nightshift, approximately 6pm to 6am
Department/Position Overview:
This position will work in various units at Sentara Leigh Hospital, including Med Surg, ICU and ED, etc. You are assigned to a unit each shift. Join us in helping to keep our patients safe!
As a Safety Partner with Sentara, you will assist with the provision of a safe hospital environment conducive to individualized patient care for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self-harm or other risk behaviors enabling patients to maintain or enhance function during the hospital stay.
Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Prior healthcare experience or enrollment in a health science program strongly preferred.
  • Applicants without prior experience or current health sciences program status must successfully complete a Sentara Safety Partner Training Course in addition to core competencies during orientation.
  • Core competencies for all safety partners to include communication, confidentiality, de-escalation, fall prevention, patient safety, restraints, stroke, and suicide.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • De-escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire, except for those in Behavioral Health within 15 days of hire.

Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 274-bed acute care facility that opened in 1903 and relocated to its present site in 1977. Our hospital completed a renovation in 2016, including two new patient towers, a beautiful atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. Sentara Leigh Hospital includes a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital providing patients access to a full continuum of orthopedic care, from the preoperative phase and surgery to rehabilitation and home care services. Along with being a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, we also specialize in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity care, and general surgery. We are also home to the region's only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program that helps speed up the healing of carbon monoxide poisoning, wounds that won't heal, infections in which tissues are starved for oxygen, airborne chemical exposures, and scuba diving accidents.
