JOB SUMMARY

ERCOT's Client Services Development Program (CSDP) is a 12-month rotational program designed to develop entry-level or career-transitioning candidates into technical subject matter experts and primary points of contact for ERCOT market operations.

This 12-month rotational program is designed to build you into a trusted point of contact for ERCOT Market Participants. CDSP candidates build a strong foundation in ERCOT's market systems, protocols, and grid operations, with emphasis on technical analysis, market rule interpretation, and system/process integration. Associates will rotate through Market Training, Market Support Services, and Client Services Account Management - gaining hands-on exposure to the systems, data flows, protocols, and operational processes that support the ERCOT wholesale market and grid operations.

Through structured training, mentoring, and project-based work, associates develop the ability to translate complex market rules and system behaviors into actionable guidance for Market Participants, positioning them for technical-facing roles within Client Services and across ERCOT. No prior experience in energy markets is required. We are looking for technically curious, analytically minded candidates who are ready to learn and grow.

JOB DUTIES

  • Applies foundational knowledge of ERCOT market systems, protocols, and grid operations to analyze operational scenarios and data.
  • Understands grid and market rules, procedures, and system outputs to support accurate and consistent decision-making.
  • Contributes to technical deliverables, process improvements, and operational objectives under guidance.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

We are seeking candidates who bring technical thinking and a drive to learn. You do not need to know the energy industry to succeed here - you need the aptitude and curiosity to master it.

  • Build a strong foundation in ERCOT's market systems, protocols, and grid operations through structured training and mentored, real-world work.
  • Establish and grow relationships with ERCOT Market Participants through timely, accurate, and complete responses to their questions and issues.
  • Analyze operational scenarios and data, applying ERCOT Market Rules and procedures to support Market Participant's accurate, consistent decision-making.
  • Work toward becoming a technical liaison between ERCOT systems and Market Participants - diagnosing issues, interpreting system behavior, and guiding resolution.
  • Learn Market Participant onboarding, registration, and qualification processes with a focus on technical requirements and system integration.
  • Acquire sufficient understanding of wholesale settlement to resolve settlement disputes.
  • Contribute to market notices, ensuring technical accuracy and clarity of system and market impacts.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives involving system enhancements, process optimization, and market design changes.
  • Develop documentation, knowledge articles, and training materials focused on systems, tools, and market mechanics.
  • Identify opportunities for data-driven process improvements as you become familiar with existing workflows.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consume complex technical subjects and condense and deliver them to a non-technical audience.
  • Deliver knowledge transfer sessions and training on market systems, tools, and operational processes.
  • Complete a capstone project that demonstrates your applied understanding of ERCOT systems, market operations, and technical problem-solving.

EXPERIENCE

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data, analyze system behavior, and work within rule-based frameworks.
  • Strong interest in power systems, energy markets, or large-scale operational systems.
  • Self-motivated with a growth mindset - you take ownership of your development.
  • Coursework, internships, research, or personal interest in wholesale electricity, grid operations, or market design is welcome.

WORK LOCATION: Taylor, TX hybrid 2 days per week.

EDUCATION

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related), Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
