Job Title: Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic

The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services has an exciting opportunity for an Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team at a project location 65 miles outside of Elko, Nevada. Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing mechanical support and expertise to all areas of the underground and surface equipment in a safe and efficient manner to avoid injury to themselves or others, or damage to the equipment, other property or to the environment. Using technical and practical knowledge, this position will follow instruction, utilize shop and assembly manuals, and adhere to the health and safety standards.

Location: 65 Miles outside of Elko, Nevada
Shift: 14-days on / 14-days off rotation

Accommodation: Camp-style living is provided, including a private room, three meals per day, and daily transportation between camp and site. Additionally, *travel assistance of up to $500 per rotation is available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate commitment to following all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mining equipment and ancillary equipment, including light vehicles as required
  • Ensure projects are carried out in a timely, cost efficient and meticulous manner
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services in accordance with the maintenance schedule and/or based on operational requirements
  • Document reports detailing work performed, problems diagnosed, pre & post checks and all other required shift paperwork
  • Maintain and demonstrate a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors, the client and all other personnel
  • Practice good general housekeeping in the work area and equipment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience required
  • Possess general computer skills
  • Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
  • Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Certificate or Mechanical Degree (Required)
  • 2-5 years of experience working underground as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic (preferred)
  • Underground MSHA (Required before day 1)
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
  • Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Read and understand manuals, schematics, diagrams and blueprints
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
  • Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow
  • Typical equipment; Sandvik jumbo(s), scoop(s) and haul truck(s), Volvo/Cat front end loaders/telehandler & grader. Toyota land cruiser light vehicles.

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
  • Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
