You will work alongside our PLS on residential subdivision construction staking, topographic surveys, and boundary and ALTA/NSPS work across the Central Coast. This is an entry-level position designed for current students, recent graduates, and early-career field personnel who want a clear, supported pathway toward the California LSIT and eventually full PLS licensure.

  2. Operate Trimble robotic total stations, RTK GPS/GNSS rovers, and data collectors to capture field data for topographic surveys and construction staking.
  3. Perform traverse work, differential leveling, and control recovery as directed.
  4. Maintain clean, legible field notes and digital data files on every project.
  5. Support deeds and maps research, property line and easement calculations in CAD, and drafting of topographic maps and exhibits during office days.
  6. Perform daily cleaning, charging, and basic maintenance of survey equipment and the survey vehicle.
  7. Drive safely to and from project sites across SLO and Santa Barbara Counties.
  8. Perform related responsibilities as required or directed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; current enrollment in or completion of a surveying, civil engineering, construction, geomatics, or drafting program at an accredited community college or four-year university is preferred.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, walk several miles per day across uneven terrain, and work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and dust.
  • Ability to follow directions precisely, maintain strong attention to detail, and communicate clearly with crew members, clients, and contractors.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Prior exposure to robotic total stations, RTK GPS/GNSS, and data collectors is a plus (Trimble platform preferred).
  • AutoCAD or Civil 3D knowledge
  • Interest in pursuing the California LSIT exam and eventual PLS licensure is strongly encouraged.

Work Environment:
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some projects may require more out of- the-area and overnight travel. A California Driverยดs license is required to perform the work.
