Job description

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: Russellville, AR

Pay Rate: $19.00/hr

Hours: 2/2/3 Night Shift Schedule

  • 7:40pm-8:00am

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The primary objective of this position is to safely operate and support the grinder process to optimize grinder uptime and maximize the consumption of startup scrap.

This is an entry-level role in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and eager to learn basic equipment operation and material handling.

Once the current startup scrap inventory has been processed, this position will have the opportunity to transition into a Downline Production Associate role, operating the full downline process (training provided).

As an operations team member, you will have many opportunities to extend your skill base and will be expected to accept responsibility and be accountable for contributing to the successful operation of the plant. We expect pride in workmanship and team involvement in ensuring a safe environment, eliminating waste, and working together to solve problems, make decisions and improve operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate and monitor the grinder to maintain safe, consistent throughput and maximize uptime.

Safely operate a forklift to stage, move, load, and unload scrap, finished goods, and other materials as needed.

Sort, prepare, and feed startup scrap into the grinder per work instructions, ensuring material quality and preventing contamination.

Perform routine start-up, shut-down, and changeover activities for the grinder, following lockout/tagout and safety procedures.

Identify and respond to common process interruptions (e.g., bridging, jams, plugged chutes), escalating to maintenance/leadership when needed.

Complete required checks and documentation (production counts, downtime reasons, material movements) accurately and on time.

Learn and comply with all Owens Corning safety policies along with all other plant rules.

Maintain a clean, orderly work area that is in compliance with 5S standards.

Ability to routinely lift up to 55 lbs. without assistance.

Work up to 12 hours in hot/cold manufacturing environment.

Walk/stand on concrete floor continuously for up to 12 hours.

Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel-toed shoes, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) hearing protection and long-sleeved shirt (with shirt tail tucked in) as necessary for task.

Maintain high level of attendance.

All other duties as assigned or needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Manufacturing, warehouse, or equipment operation experience is a plus (training provided).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Forklift experience and/or willingness to become certified

Experience operating or supporting industrial equipment (e.g., grinders, conveyors, shredders) is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Safety-first mindset and willingness to follow standard work and plant procedures

Good mechanical aptitude and ability to learn basic troubleshooting

Ability to do basic math and record information accurately

Comfortable using basic computer systems (HMI screens, tablets, or data entry) and working with minimal supervision
