Position Description
This is an entry-level accounting position, intended to assist the Plant Controller carry out his/her basic responsibilities and develop the incumbent for future growth opportunities within the corporation. The role will provide accounting support for the Joplin location, but also may assist with two other Missouri plants. This position processes monthly journal entries, helps in month-end closing and analyzes monthly results, assists in the coding and application of standard processes for spending requests, supports basic accounts payable transactions, and performs other duties necessary to the organizational accounting function.
The Financial Analyst will develop a proficiency in a number of different accounting responsibilities and duties during the first two to three years. The individual will become involved with cost information covering all areas of the plant and develop a thorough understanding of the activities of various departments and how they interrelate.
The Analyst will also be required to learn and help the Plant Controller comply with all of the relevant Modine policies and help maintain a strong internal control environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Help prepare financial data required for monthly journal entries, trial balances, and financial statements. Compile various reports (scrap, capital spending, perpetual inventory, etc.) for plant and corporate management to enhance the integrity of operations.
  • Support fixed asset transactions such as CAPEX additions, disposals and transfers for this location. This includes a physical asset inventory task every three years completed with help from Engineering.
  • Help organize and coordinate the annual physical inventories, issue and compile SAP count sheets and reports, analyze results, and make recommendations based upon the results to improve each year.
  • Help review/monitor departmental and plant procedures to assure maximum effectiveness and compliance with corporate strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Help the Plant Controller and plant management team perform their fiduciary duty to control and protect company assets. This includes timely and regular preparation of balance sheet analyses and account reconciliations.
  • Work with Materials Management department monitor inventory trends in Raw, WIP, and FG. This includes twice per year reviewing inventory for excess / obsolete reserve adjustment. In addition, be familiar with company cycle counting program and tracking the plants performance monthly in alignment with company procedures.
  • Review and approve material requisitions. Review for proper accounting treatment and taxability.
  • Review and approve monthly credit card activity for the location; ensure all expenses were properly approved and are in line with company purchasing policies.
  • Assist with the preparation of internal and external audit requests. Perform research and analysis of transactions to identify support needed for proper documentation.
  • Perform Accounts Receivable related activities such as daily Invoicing, processing Credit memos, and support of customer chargebacks activity for that location.

Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Two years of experience preferred, but not required
  • Advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of U.S. GAAP is a must.
  • Previous use and knowledge of SAP, BlackLine, and/or Hyperion is a plus.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Strong communication and business partnering skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Disciplined self-starter with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrate problem-solving mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
