JOB SUMMARYThe Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Audit-Educator primary responsibilities are to audit inpatient University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) hospital medical records for clinical documentation accuracy. Audits will be in accordance with current CDI Guidelines for compliant documentation, and organizational, departmental, and regulatory requirements. The CDI Audit -Educator is identified as the CDI subject matter expert based on education, training, and experience and as such will receive assignments in accordance with that level of expertise. Additionally, the CDI Audit- Educator may be asked to mentor and proctor employees.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Job Duties
    • Identify educational opportunities by auditing inpatient accounts in compliance with Clinical Practice guidelines, ACDIS, and the ACDIS/AHIMA Query Brief, as well as compliance with organizational, departmental, and regulatory requirements

    • CDI audits will be specific to query compliance, risk adjustments variables, clinical substance, worksheet basics, PDx, POA, etc.

    • CDI audits will include -

    • a. Identify when a physician query is appropriate for further clarification and missed query opportunities

    • b. Recognize when the documentation is unclear, missing, or incomplete and recommends appropriate action

    • c. Identify opportunities to risk adjust for clinical substance to accurately reflect the highest level of acuity as appropriate -

    • i. Secondary diagnoses; i.e. CC/MCC's, POA status, Severity of Illness & Risk of Mortality, Vizient, Elixhauser and HCC risk variables.

    • Prepare and provide educational feedback to individuals and if relevant to the entire CDI and/or Coding Teams

    • Research and prepare educational tutorials and submit to ACDIS for approval to provide Continuing Education Units (CEUas) for the attendees.

    • Support the Quality Standards set by UTSW.

    • Mentor/train as requested to ensure quality

    • Maintains an expert level of knowledge of CDI and/or Coding related guidelines and practices.

    • Other duties as assigned

    • Experience3 years of acute hospital-based CDI experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
    • Licenses and Certifications(RN) REGISTERED NURSE and(CCDS) Cert Clinical Documentation or(CDIP) CERT DOCUMNTATN IMPROVMNT PRAC
