The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Research Associate 1 to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
2. Participates in the publication of significant results.
3. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
4. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
5. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
6. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
7. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
8. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
9. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
The Research Associate 1 will support research, clinical outreach, and community engagement activities within the Sylvester Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals interested in public health, medicine, cancer prevention, occupational health, or translational research. The Research Associate 1 will work closely with multidisciplinary faculty, clinical staff, and research teams to support studies focused on firefighter health, cancer prevention, survivorship, and occupational exposures.

  • Assist with participant recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling for research studies and outreach activities
  • Support data collection activities including surveys, questionnaires, and health assessments
  • Assist with data entry, quality assurance, and maintenance of research databases (e.g., REDCap)
  • Support community-engaged research and educational outreach activities within fire departments and community settings
  • Assist with preparation of study materials, presentations, and educational resources
  • Coordinate logistics for research visits, meetings, trainings, and events
  • Assist with biospecimen collection and processing activities under supervision and training
  • Maintain accurate research records and assist with regulatory documentation
  • Participate in literature reviews and support manuscript and abstract preparation, as appropriate
  • Communicate professionally with research participants, firefighters, healthcare providers, and community partners
  • Attend team meetings, trainings, and research-related educational activities
  • Perform other research support duties as assigned by faculty and project leadership
