Entry Level Research Assistant Jobs in Nevada (NOW HIRING)

We are seeking a Research Technician Assistant for our Safety Assessment site located in Reno, Nevada. 

As a Research Technician Assistant, you will have the opportunity to care for different species of animals at our state-of-the-art safety sites.  You will learn new skills ranging from animal care and handling of laboratory animals, perform clinical observations, blood collection, drug dosing, and perform accurate data collection and reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Observe animals for general health and overall well-being.
Collect and record research data and biological specimens in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (GLPs), study protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Perform basic in-life technical procedures upon completion and sign-off of specific skill training. (e.g., handling, body weight, dosing).
May perform dosing tasks.Perform computer input under supervision.
Read basic study protocols and extract pertinent information.Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.
Retrieve and view Standard Operating Procedures using appropriate database.
Use GLPs, SOPs, processes and company policies when performing all job functions.
Handle, restrain, and provide care for all species of laboratory animals at the site.
Perform study preparation activities including collection tube labeling and room setup.
Maintain clean work areas (e.g.: laboratory area, primary enclosures, animal exam areas).Receive animals (e.g., general health observation, sexing, and identification) of all species, if applicable for the site.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.  

• Works in a research environment, which requires use of sharp objects, working around mechanical parts, heavy mobile caging, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles
• The employee regularly works with live animals with risk of exposure to dander, allergens, zoonotic disease, and biohazards in a windowless vivarium
• The noise level in the work environment ranges from low to high depending upon the species housed, and vivarium locations

The following are minimum requirements related to the Research Technician Assistant  position.

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.)
• 0-6 months related experience in animal research and/or husbandry preferred.
• Ability to handle common laboratory animal species.
• Basic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice regulations preferred.

Training schedule: 6 months, Monday- Friday from 7:00am PT until 4:00pm PT. After you complete training, you will be assigned to work either Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday. This is a full-time opportunity. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a physically demanding environment
• Previous personal or professional experience in animal care
• Computer skills
• Ability to maintain a safe work environment by observing all safety procedures and making use of protective clothing
• Ability to follow all Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules
• Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice
• Ability to work under time constraints

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Employees must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds; this includes work materials, equipment, and/or animals
Must be able to perform procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards
Must be able to frequently firmly hold species while utilizing fine motor skills
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

The pay for this position is $22.00 USD per hour. Trainig schedule is M-F, 7 am - 4 pm daily (6 mos). After training, permanent schedule is either Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs, 7-4 daily.
