Entry level recruitment jobs are positions in the hiring and staffing industry designed for individuals with little to no prior experience in recruitment. These roles typically involve tasks such as sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting initial interviews, and supporting senior recruiters. Entry level recruiters often work in agencies or internal HR departments, learning the fundamentals of the recruitment process and developing skills necessary for advancing in the field. These positions are ideal for people interested in human resources and talent acquisition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level recruiter?

To thrive as an Entry Level Recruiter, you typically need a bachelor’s degree, strong organizational skills, and a basic understanding of recruitment processes. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), resume databases, and professional networking tools like LinkedIn is highly beneficial. Outstanding interpersonal skills, effective communication, and resilience help you build relationships with candidates and hiring managers. These competencies are crucial for efficiently sourcing talent, matching candidates to roles, and supporting organizational staffing needs.

What types of challenges might I face as an entry level recruiter, and how can I overcome them?

As an entry level recruiter, you may encounter challenges such as sourcing high-quality candidates in a competitive market, managing multiple job requisitions simultaneously, and building relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. Being proactive in learning about the industries you recruit for and staying organized can help ease your transition and support your long-term success.

Job description

Training Program Recruiter
Location: Massillon & Millersburg, Ohio
At Mast Trucking, our Training Program exists to turn the right people into great drivers. Every truck on the road, every customer we serve, and every success story in our program starts with finding the right people. This is a results-driven recruiting role for someone who enjoys connecting with people, solving problems, and making decisions that have a real impact.
The people who thrive in this role are aggressive learners who take ownership instead of making excuses, enjoy solving problems others avoid, and have a competitive edge that drives them to keep improving. Success in this role comes from good judgment. You'll need to know how to read people, ask thoughtful questions, build trust, and adapt your approach based on the person in front of you. If you're motivated by measurable results, continuous growth, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
  • Own the candidate experience from the first conversation through starting our Training Program.
  • Build trust quickly and help candidates confidently navigate the decision to begin a professional driving career.
  • Ask thoughtful questions to understand what motivates each candidate and determine whether they're the right fit.
  • Sell the opportunity with honesty and confidence while helping candidates understand the long-term value of starting their career the right way.
  • Evaluate applications, driving records, and qualifications to identify candidates with the mindset, stability, and commitment to succeed.
  • Engage new leads quickly through phone calls, email, text, and live chat while maintaining consistent follow-up throughout the hiring process.
  • Prioritize speed, responsiveness, and follow-through so qualified candidates continue moving efficiently through every stage of the hiring process.
  • Develop into a trusted interviewer who can evaluate fit, educate candidates, and confidently represent Mast Trucking and our Training Program.
  • Review recruiting results and candidate outcomes to continually improve your approach.
  • Partner with our training and operations teams to ensure recruiting efforts align with business needs.
  • Maintain organized, accurate candidate information within our Applicant Tracking System.
What It Takes
  • Emotional Intelligence: You know how to build trust, read people, and adapt your approach based on the conversation.
  • Ownership: You take responsibility for your results and focus on improving instead of making excuses.
  • Competitive Drive: You enjoy being measured by performance and are motivated to continually raise the bar.
  • Resilience: Recruiting is a grind. Candidates change their minds, disappear, fail screenings, or don't follow through. You stay steady, maintain your professionalism, and keep moving forward.
  • Judgment: You make sound decisions even when there isn't a clear playbook. You know when to push, when to listen, and when to move on.
  • Coachability: You actively seek feedback, learn from your results, and are always looking for ways to improve.
  • Organization: You can effectively manage multiple candidates and priorities without losing attention to detail.
  • Technology Skills: You're comfortable using recruiting software, communication tools, and spreadsheets to stay organized and efficient.
  • Experience: Recruiting, sales, customer service, or other relationship-driven roles can provide a strong foundation. More important than your background is your drive to learn, improve, and produce results.
The Opportunity
  • Earn a competitive base salary with performance-based bonus opportunities and significant earning potential.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our business, industry, and what it takes to build high-performing teams.
  • Build a reputation by consistently producing results, solving problems, and earning the trust of your teammates.
  • High performers who consistently deliver results position themselves for expanded responsibilities and future career opportunities within Mast Trucking.
  • Make a lasting impact by helping people build successful careers while strengthening the future of Mast Trucking.

  • Must be able to work on-site at BOTH our Millersburg and our Massillon, Ohio office
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
  • Previous success in recruiting, sales, customer service, or another relationship-driven role is preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly process information, read between the lines, and adapt your approach based on the conversation.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to recognize patterns, connect information, and make sound decisions in real time.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, conversations, and follow-ups.
  • Strong computer aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and confidently navigate new technology, software platforms, and systems.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity, communication, research, or workflow is preferred.
  • Experience using data, metrics, and performance trends to evaluate results, identify opportunities, and make informed decisions.
  • Comfortable spending a significant portion of the day communicating with candidates by phone, text, email, and in person
