Is sales a recession proof job?

Entry level sales jobs are often considered more resilient during economic downturns because many sales roles are commission-based and focus on essential products or services. Developing strong communication and product knowledge can help improve job stability in sales roles during recessions.

What are entry level recession proof sales jobs?

Entry level recession proof sales jobs are positions that focus on selling products or services that tend to remain in demand even during economic downturns. These roles may include selling essential goods, healthcare services, insurance, or technology solutions that businesses and consumers continue to need regardless of the economy. Individuals in these positions often receive training, work under experienced managers, and have opportunities for advancement. Because the products or services are considered necessities, job security is generally higher during recessions compared to other sales jobs.

Job description

$70,000–$100,000+ First Year (No Industry Experience Required)

Are you a proven sales professional who thrives on performance and income potential but tired of selling products that don’t truly matter?

What if you could take your sales ability and apply it to an essential, recession-resistant industry where homeowners genuinely need your help?

Express Plumbing Heating & Air is looking for driven sales professionals ready to build a long-term career in the skilled trades. We will train you in the technical side. You bring the communication skills, work ethic, and drive to win.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

  • $70,000–$100,000+ earning potential in your first year
  • Paid training from day one
  • Hourly base to start
  • Transition into Performance Pay (earn the better of hourly OR commission)
  • Company-provided service calls (no cold calling)
  • Essential industry with year-round demand
  • Clear path for advancement

This is not a draw. Not a gamble. Not “eat what you kill.”
You’re supported and rewarded for performance.

How the Training Works

Weeks 1–2: Ride with an experienced technician
Weeks 3–5: Paid hands-on training in our training facility
After launch: Run your own company-provided calls and move into Performance Pay

We invest in you first. Then you earn based on results.

What You’ll Do

  • Meet with homeowners on company-provided service calls
  • Diagnose plumbing issues (we train you)
  • Present solution options clearly and confidently
  • Build trust and deliver exceptional customer experience
  • Perform smaller repairs yourself
  • Sell larger projects for installation teams when needed
  • Represent a Best Places to Work award-winning company inside customers’ homes

You are both a problem-solver and a revenue driver.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven sales experience (any industry)
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable discussing pricing and value
  • Competitive, goal-oriented mindset
  • Coachable and eager to learn a skilled trade
  • High integrity and accountability
  • Valid driver’s license with few or no violations

We can teach plumbing.
We cannot teach drive, character, or work ethic.

Schedule

Typical hours: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
This is a service-based role, so end times may vary depending on customer needs. We do our best to ensure team members maintain a healthy balance while always taking care of the client.
