Role Summary

The Quality Engineer is an entry-level field support position responsible for assisting Field Operations with jobsite documentation, quality tracking, and project progress photos. This role will work closely with Superintendents, General Superintendents, Project Managers, and Warehouse Operations to document field conditions, installation progress, deficiencies, punch list items, and material issues.

The primary responsibility of this position is to visit active jobsites, take clear and organized photos, upload documentation into PlanGrid, and communicate observed issues to the appropriate field and office team members.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

Jobsite Documentation / PlanGrid

  • Visit active jobsites to document field conditions, installation progress, completed work, deficiencies, and material-related issues.
  • Take clear photos of doors, frames, hardware, openings, damage, missing material, completed work, and other relevant jobsite conditions.
  • Upload photos and notes into PlanGrid in a timely and organized manner.
  • Label documentation by project, floor, area, opening, issue type, and date as applicable.
  • Assist Superintendents and General Superintendents with maintaining accurate jobsite documentation.
  • Help document internal punch list items before GC punch or owner punch.
  • Document existing site conditions that may impact installation, schedule, warranty, or quality.

Quality Support

  • Assist Field Operations with identifying and documenting common installation deficiencies.
  • Document quality issues related to hollow metal frames, wood doors, hardware, deliveries, storage, handling, and field installation.
  • Support documentation of damaged, missing, incorrect, or incomplete materials.
  • Assist with hollow metal frame inspections prior to door installation when requested.
  • Assist with warranty-related documentation and troubleshooting on existing projects within the warranty period.

Communication / Reporting

  • Communicate documented issues to the appropriate Superintendent, General Superintendent, Project Manager, and Field Leadership.
  • Provide timely updates when urgent deficiencies, missing materials, site conditions, or installation concerns are observed.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents before and after jobsite walks to confirm priorities, areas of concern, and follow-up items.
  • Provide weekly summaries of jobsites visited, major issues observed, and documentation completed.
  • Help track open field issues and punch list items as directed by Superintendents or General Superintendents.
  • Assist with jobsite inventory spot checks when requested.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support General Superintendents and Field Leadership with special documentation or quality-related projects as needed.
  • Assist with jobsite walks related to owner concerns, GC complaints, warranty items, or field performance issues.
  • Help reinforce basic PlanGrid documentation expectations with field team members when needed.
  • Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Key Expectations

  • Consistently visit jobsites and document conditions thoroughly.
  • Upload photos and notes into PlanGrid accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate clearly with Superintendents, General Superintendents, Project Managers, and Warehouse Operations.
  • Help identify and document issues early so they can be addressed before they become larger problems.
  • Maintain a professional presence on jobsites while representing PDHG.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, and consistent with documentation.
  • Take direction well from Field Leadership and be willing to learn PDHG’s standards, processes, and expectations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Entry-level position; construction experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to active jobsites as required.
  • Basic understanding of jobsite safety requirements.
  • Experience with doors, frames, hardware, field operations, project coordination, or quality control is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PlanGrid, Bluebeam, OpenSpace, or similar construction documentation software is preferred.
  • Ability to read basic plans, door schedules, and project documentation preferred.
