Shaw Industries is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our team in Bainbridge, Georgia, supporting one of our key manufacturing operations. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, implementing innovative automation solutions, and driving improvements in safety, quality, reliability, and productivity.
As an Automation Engineer, you'll work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to optimize manufacturing processes and support the advanced technologies that keep our facility running efficiently.

What You'll Do
Technical Leadership & Problem Solving
  • Become the subject matter expert for equipment and manufacturing processes within assigned departments.
  • Support maintenance technicians, electricians, and process engineers in advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead efforts to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and process performance.
Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with production teams to identify and implement safety, quality, and productivity improvements.
  • Drive plant and departmental objectives through automation technologies and process optimization.
  • Utilize data and analytics to improve manufacturing performance.
Capital Projects
  • Design, manage, and execute capital improvement projects.
  • Provide leadership throughout project planning, installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Support electrical power distribution, controls systems, and mechanical project components.
Automation & Controls
  • Maintain and enforce Shaw's electrical standards and code requirements.
  • Ensure all automation systems remain supported through proper documentation, drawings, source code management, spare parts, and vendor support.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Information Manufacturing (CIM) and other Shaw Automation Engineers to leverage best practices and share knowledge across the organization.
Talent Development
  • Mentor and develop technical resources within the plant.
  • Support skill development and knowledge transfer among maintenance and engineering teams.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline)
  • Minimum 1 year of automation engineering experience
  • Experience with:
    • PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens)
    • HMI systems
    • Industrial controls and automation platforms
    • PC hardware and software systems
  • Knowledge of:
    • AC, DC, and Servo motors
    • Single-phase and three-phase electrical systems
    • Industrial power distribution
    • Machine safety systems and guarding standards
    • Industrial networking protocols

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations
  • Project management or capital project experience
  • Experience writing software applications used for process data collection and analysis
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset
