Job description

At Trella Health, our mission is simple: empowering meaningful change in healthcare.
We are building AI-enabled intelligence and workflows that help healthcare organizations make smarter decisions, strengthen operations, and support healthier outcomes for patients. Our platform connects health systems and post-acute providers through actionable intelligence and connected workflows that improve how care is coordinated across the healthcare continuum.
That work starts with our people. Trellavators are collaborative, curious, and committed to doing meaningful work that makes a measurable impact. We move quickly, support each other, keep our commitments, and continuously look for better ways to serve our customers and one another.
If you are excited by the opportunity to grow your career while helping shape the future of healthcare intelligence, workflows, and outcomes, we would love to meet you.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on QA Automation Lead to evaluate, improve, and scale our existing Playwright-based automation framework across UI, API, and data testing - with mobile automation on the future roadmap. The ideal candidate brings deep technical experience, takes clear ownership, and can assess what exists today, identify what needs to change, and drive the program forward. The initial focus of this role will be assessing the current automation landscape, improving API automation reliability and coverage, expanding UI automation, and establishing clear automation health metrics.
Location: This is a hybrid role with 1 day a week in our Atlanta office.
Reports to: Director, Quality Assurance
As the QA Automation Lead at Trella, you will:
  • Automation Strategy & Leadership
    • Define and own the automation roadmap - establish standards, quality gates, coverage goals, and success metrics across UI, API, and data validation.
    • Partner with QA, Engineering, Product, and DevOps to align automation efforts with business priorities and release objectives.
    • Provide accurate, timely reporting on automation coverage, execution health, and release readiness that can be independently validated and relied upon by leadership; communicate risks and remediation plans proactively.
    • Create and maintain strategy documents, architecture diagrams, onboarding guides, and runbooks; lead knowledge transfer to reduce key-person dependency.
    • Mentor QA team members contributing to automation efforts.
  • Hands-On Automation Engineering
    • Critically evaluate the existing Playwright framework - assess architecture, coverage, test quality, and reliability - and execute a clear improvement plan.
    • Contribute to, maintain, and evolve the framework; design scalable, reusable solutions that support long-term growth.
    • Define and enforce coding standards, framework conventions, and automation best practices.
    • Build and maintain comprehensive coverage across UI, API, and data validation - including endpoint validation, functional workflow testing, negative testing, and regression.
  • CI/CD & Operations
    • Own the operational health of the automation program, including execution reliability, failure triage, and remediation planning.
    • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and release workflows; ensure suites execute consistently and provide actionable feedback.
    • Monitor automation health, investigate failures, and drive improvements to execution stability and pass rates.
    • Maintain dashboards and KPIs that give leadership clear, reliable visibility into automation readiness without additional validation.

This job might be a fit for you if you have:
  • Required
    • 7+ years of QA Automation experience with a strong hands-on track record.
    • 3+ years leading automation initiatives, frameworks, or automation teams.
    • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript.
    • Experience evaluating and improving existing automation frameworks.
    • Experience designing and maintaining UI, API, and data automation solutions.
    • Strong understanding of automation architecture, framework design, and test strategy.
    • Experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
    • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish automation reporting, execution metrics, and release readiness indicators that can be relied upon by QA and Engineering leadership.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred
    • Experience with healthcare data platforms, analytics products, or enterprise SaaS applications.
    • Experience with data validation and data quality testing.
    • Experience with mobile automation frameworks such as Appium - mobile automation is on our future roadmap.
    • Experience working with AI-powered QA tooling.
    • Experience with TestRail or similar test management platforms.
    • Experience building automation programs within Agile development environments.
