Job description

Research Associate, Process Development Downstream

Location: Tustin, CA


About the Role

We are partnering with a leading clinical and commercial biologics CDMO focused on developing and manufacturing biopharmaceuticals. They are seeking a Research Associate, Process Development Downstream to support the development, optimization, and scale-up of downstream purification processes used in biologics manufacturing. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to protein purification, chromatography development, filtration studies, and technology transfer activities that help bring innovative therapies from development into commercial production.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support downstream process development and routine purification of monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins.
  • Assist with chromatography method development and execution for protein purification processes.
  • Perform buffer formulation development, buffer preparation, and filtration process development activities.
  • Operate chromatography systems, filtration equipment, and supporting process development instrumentation.
  • Conduct in-process and routine analytical testing, including protein concentration and HPLC-based assays.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret experimental data to support process development projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project summaries for internal teams and clients.
  • Support process scale-up activities and technology transfer of downstream operations into manufacturing.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 1-2+ years of industry experience in downstream process development, protein purification, or bioprocessing.
  • Hands-on experience with chromatography, filtration processes, buffer preparation, and protein purification techniques.
