Job description

Arizona Public Service generates clean, reliable and affordable energy for 2.7 million Arizonans. Our service territory stretches across the state, from the border town of Douglas to the vistas of the Grand Canyon, from the solar fields of Gila Bend to the ponderosa pines of Payson. As the state's largest and longest-serving energy provider, our more than 6,000 dedicated employees power our vision of creating a sustainable energy future for Arizona.
Since our founding in 1886, APS has demonstrated a strong commitment to our customers in one of the country's fastest growing states, earning a reputation for customer satisfaction, shareholder value, operational excellence and business integrity.
Our present and future success depends on the creative and dedicated people of our company who demonstrate the principles outlined in the APS Promise: Design for Tomorrow, Empower Each Other and Succeed Together.
Summary
The Project Controls Scheduler supports the planning, development, and maintenance of integrated project schedules for Transmission & Distribution (T&D) projects. This role develops and updates logic-driven schedules, monitors schedule performance, and provides routine reporting and analysis to support effective project execution and decision-making.
The Project Controls Scheduler works closely with project managers, engineering, construction, procurement, and other stakeholders to maintain schedule accuracy, identify potential risks and impacts, and ensure alignment with project objectives. The role applies established scheduling standards and contributes to the continuous improvement of project controls tools, processes, and reporting practices.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED plus two (2) years scheduling and/or project controls experience. Experience with Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling tools.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of scheduling principles and project controls fundamentals.

Major Accountabilities
1) Develops and maintains logic-driven, resource-loaded schedules in Primavera P6 across assigned T&D projects, including substations, overhead and underground transmission, and distribution feeders. Statuses activities weekly with input from project managers (PM), engineers and construction leads, updating progress, actual dates and remaining durations. Develops Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), activity coding, calendars, milestones, and logic ties on new schedules with senior review. Aligns schedule structure with the project controls cost structure so data ties cleanly between schedule and cost.
2) Partners directly with PMs, engineers, construction leads and procurement to capture schedule impacts and update accordingly. Presents schedule status on projects in client meetings with APS, partnering with the PM as the situation requires. Processes schedule revisions through formal change control, with senior review.
3) Produces weekly progress reports, look-ahead schedules, milestone summaries and monthly schedule narratives for project teams and leadership. Supports earned value reporting in partnership with cost analysts. Creates and manages metric reporting.
4) Runs critical path, total float and logic analyses on assigned schedules; identify risks and propose actions, not just observations. Checks schedule health and remediate leads, lags, hard constraints and missing logic on your schedules.
5) Applies established scheduling standards, templates, activity coding libraries and progressing methodologies; suggest improvements as you go. Builds proficiency with cost and estimating platforms (e.g., InEight Estimate / Hard Dollar) and reporting tools (Power BI, Excel).
