Job description

WORK LOCATION: This position allows for a hybrid / flexible work schedule with a mix of work spent on site at the Sargent & Lundy office and working remote from home.ย 

We areย seekingย a highly skilled and experienced Lead Electrical Analytical Engineer specializing in Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) analysis of power systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in performing complex calculations related to Transient Over-Voltage (TOV), Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV), Switching Studies, and Insulation Coordination. Additionally, the candidate shouldย possessย extensive softwareย proficiencyย in PSCAD or EMTP-RV.ย 

Responsibilities:ย 

  • Conduct detailed electrical analysisย utilizingย time domain techniques to evaluate system performance andย identifyย potential issues.ย 
  • Perform complex calculations related to Transient Over-Voltage (TOV), Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV), Switching Studies, and Insulation Coordination.ย 
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions toย optimizeย system performance and mitigate risks.ย 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technicalย expertiseย and support in electrical analysis and troubleshooting.ย 
  • Prepare comprehensive reports documenting analysis findings, recommendations, and design modifications.ย 
  • Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies relevant to time domain analysis.ย

Essential skills and experience:

  • Aย Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Electrical Engineeringย (background in Power/Power Systems) and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree.ย Master'sย or PhD in Electrical Engineering is preferred.ย 
  • 12ย or more years of experience in time domain analysis of power systems.ย 
  • Proficiencyย inย utilizingย software tools such as PSCAD or EMTP-RV to perform complex electrical calculations.ย 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability toย identifyย and resolve complex technical issues.ย 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.ย 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.ย

  • You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
