Entry Level Personal Injury information

What does an entry level personal injury professional do?

An entry level personal injury professional typically assists attorneys in cases where clients have been injured due to accidents or negligence. Their tasks may include gathering evidence, interviewing clients and witnesses, preparing legal documents, and conducting research on relevant laws. They often work under the supervision of experienced attorneys to build strong cases and help clients seek compensation for their injuries. This role provides a foundation for understanding personal injury law and developing essential legal skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level personal injury professional?

To thrive as an entry-level personal injury paralegal, you need a solid understanding of legal terminology, case management, and basic legal research, usually supported by a paralegal certificate or relevant coursework. Familiarity with legal case management software, e-filing systems, and Microsoft Office Suite is typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and attorneys help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure efficient case handling, accurate documentation, and effective support to attorneys, directly impacting client outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level personal injury professionals when managing multiple cases simultaneously?

Entry-level personal injury professionals often encounter the challenge of balancing several cases at once, each with unique details, deadlines, and client needs. Effective time management and organizational skills are crucial, as missing key dates or misplacing documentation can negatively impact a case. Additionally, learning how to communicate empathetically with clients while coordinating with attorneys, medical providers, and insurance adjusters can be demanding. Most firms provide mentoring and structured support, but proactive communication and attention to detail are essential to succeed in this fast-paced environment.

Is entry level personal injury law a good career?

Entry level personal injury law involves assisting attorneys with case research, client communication, and document preparation, providing valuable experience in the legal field. It can be a good starting point for those interested in litigation, requiring strong communication, organization, and knowledge of legal procedures. Career growth depends on gaining experience, additional education, and developing specialized skills in personal injury law.

Job description

Legal Intake Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Legal Intake Specialist with a strong background in plaintiff-side Personal Injury and/or Workers' Compensation.

This is not an entry-level intake or legal support position.

The intake function is a critical part of our practice. This person will be trusted to evaluate prospective matters, recognize strong cases, identify potential issues, and help determine which opportunities the firm should pursue. We are looking for someone who has spent enough time around Personal Injury and/or Workers' Compensation matters to understand what makes a case worth taking.

The Role

You will be one of the first people evaluating prospective cases coming into the firm. This requires considerably more than gathering information and completing an intake form.

You will be expected to:

  • Speak directly with prospective clients and obtain the information necessary to properly evaluate their matter
  • Assess potential PI and Workers' Compensation claims based on liability, injuries, damages, coverage, treatment, timing, and other relevant factors
  • Recognize the difference between a potentially valuable case and a matter the firm should decline
  • Identify important facts, potential problems, and additional questions that need to be addressed
  • Recognize when a prospective client may have multiple potential claims or legal issues
  • Identify matters outside the firm's primary practice areas that may warrant referral to another attorney or firm
  • Communicate your assessment clearly to attorneys and leadership
  • Help ensure strong cases are identified and moved through the intake process efficiently

What We're Looking For

This position requires several years of meaningful experience within Personal Injury and/or Workers' Compensation.

Your background may come from intake, case management, paralegal work, claims evaluation, or another role that has given you substantial exposure to injury cases.

More important than your previous title is your ability to evaluate a case.

You should be able to look at a potential matter and quickly begin assessing: Is there liability? How significant are the injuries and damages? Is there coverage? Are there additional claims or defendants? Is this a case worth pursuing? Is there another opportunity here that should be referred elsewhere?

We need someone who has developed that judgment through experience.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Intake is not treated as an administrative function within this practice. It is central to how the firm identifies new cases, serves prospective clients, and grows its practice.

Because of that responsibility, this position offers compensation of $120,000–$160,000, depending on experience.

There is also long-term advancement potential into a higher-level intake management or leadership position for someone who demonstrates strong judgment, leadership ability, and consistent performance.

If you have substantial Personal Injury or Workers' Compensation experience and have developed the ability to quickly recognize and evaluate strong cases, we would like to hear from you.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, age, color, sex (including pregnancy), religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military status, genetic information, or any other status protected by applicable laws or regulations.
