Job description

 Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Engineer to join the ZPE Systems Team in Fremont, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

· Design and develop hardware devices for infrastructure management, including routers, serial consoles, and edge network components.

· Review circuit designs, PCB layout, mechanical designs, and assist on component selection for high-performance, reliable, and energy-efficient hardware.

· Collaborate with contract manufacturers and vendors to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.

· Collaborate with product management to define and refine product requirements.

· Coordinate with firmware and software teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware components.

Firmware Development:

· Maintain a cross-compiler environment for embedded systems.

· Write and review code for boot loader, BIOS, device drivers, firmware installation, and hardware tests.

· Maintain source control management with git.

· Follow agile development strategies and practices.

Prototyping and Testing:

· Build and test hardware prototypes, refining designs based on test results.

· Conduct measurements and analyses to verify design integrity and compliance with industry standards.

· Collaborate with contract manufacturers to review prototype and production testing results.

Manufacturing and Production Support:

· Work closely with contract manufacturers to resolve technical issues during production, ensuring products meet quality and performance expectations.

· Drive continuous improvement efforts to optimize cost, performance, and reliability of products.

Documentation and Compliance:

· Create detailed documentations, including production documents, specifications, test reports, work instructions, and provide cross-departmental training based on the documentations.

· Understand hardware certification and regulatory compliance requirements in terms of safety, emissions, radiofrequency transmission of cellular and Wi-Fi modules for the main markets in the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.

· Understand interoperability requirements for cellular carriers.

· Work closely with certification labs to attain required certifications for ZPE products.

· Enable continuous effort to ensure products stay up to date on current certifications and compliance requirements and maintain comprehensive and organized documentations to enable smooth process of product sales and shipping.


Education:  Bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related degree.

We welcome early-career candidates, including recent graduates with 1+ years of hands-on execution experience through a relevant internship, co-op, or professional role.

Core Qualifications:

·Knowledge and experience with circuit design, PCB layout tools, and troubleshooting.

· Understanding of digital and analog circuits, power management, and high-speed signal design.

· Hands-on experience with using hardware diagnostic tools (e.g, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and soldering tools) to troubleshoot and test electronic circuits.

· Understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., SMT, injection molding, machining, assembly, etc.).

· Familiarity with product testing and validation processes, including functional and reliability testing, as well as EMI/EMC and safety compliance testing.

· Analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and implementing corrective/preventive methods.

· Communication skills to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and external partner teams. 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in hardware design and development, preferably in the networking or telecommunications industry.

· Familiarity with IoT devices, edge computing, and data center hardware.

· Experience with Small Form-factor Pluggable modules and Passive Optical Network technologies.

· Experience working with contract manufacturers or ODMs for hardware development and production.

· Bilingual in Portuguese, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese would be a plus for working with international teams, independent laboratories, and manufacturing partners.

Salary and Benefits: $100,000 - $115,000
