About This Job Engineering Technicians assigned to theTraffic Monitoring Unitsupport the collection, management, and reporting of traffic data used to determine annual average daily traffic (AADT), vehicle classification, and vehicle weight, in accordance with federal guidelines. This is anentry-level position designed for individuals interested in learning technical skills, gaining field experience, and building a career in transportation or engineering support. Work assignments involve a combination of fieldwork and office-based duties.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Depending on assignment and experience level, Engineering Technicians may: Independently collect traffic data by setting up and removing traffic tubes, recorders, and related equipment Develop daily work plans for assigned monitoring locations Travel statewide to install, maintain, and remove traffic monitoring equipment Maintain accurate records of work performed and data collected Enter traffic data into databases, spreadsheets, or applications Generate information used for traffic reports and studies Collect short-session traffic volume and vehicle classification data Assist with emergency or disaster response activities as needed Position-Specific Details: Career Progression: This position may be filled as Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on qualifications and agency needs Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked
