Job description

We are looking for an entry-level Accountant to support financial operations for an organization in Modesto, California. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for someone who enjoys detailed accounting work, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to program-based financial reporting. The role focuses on core accounting duties tied to programs and compliance needs.


Responsibilities:

• Record and post journal entries in the general ledger while assisting with period-end and program close activities.

• Review account activity, investigate discrepancies, and complete bank reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records.

• Track financial transactions and supporting documentation for designated programs, including grant- and fund-related accounts.

• Prepare invoices and billing documentation for assigned programs in accordance with reporting and funding requirements.

• Compile and submit financial reports for oversight agencies, including reporting connected to government programs.

• Maintain organized accounting records and ensure program files are current, complete, and audit ready.

• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes by verifying transactions and helping resolve routine issues.

• At least 2 years of accounting or finance experience; or 4 years of accounting or finance experience in place of the degree.

• Working knowledge of bookkeeping practices, financial record maintenance, and general accounting procedures.

• Experience preparing journal entries and working within a computerized general ledger environment.

• Ability to perform bank reconciliations, analyze account balances, and identify variances.

• Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and supporting documentation processes.

• Proficiency with standard office software, accounting systems, and general computer applications.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments with accuracy and consistency.
