The University Relations Recruiter develops and executes campus recruiting strategies, university engagement initiatives, and early-career hiring processes to attract and hire qualified talent for Marathon Petroleum's internship, co-op, and entry-level opportunities. This role partners closely with internal business stakeholders and external university contacts to build sustainable talent pipelines, strengthen campus relationships, support assigned business units, and deliver positive candidate experience. The University Relations Recruiter also serves as an ambassador for the organization and is expected to demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, consultative, analytical, and strategic thinking skills when engaging with candidates, university partners, hiring teams, and business leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • University Relations Strategy & Pipeline Development: Develops and executes campus recruiting strategies for assigned business unit(s), including school selection, engagement planning, and pipeline development for internship, co-op, and entry-level hiring needs.
  • Full-Cycle Recruiting & Candidate Experience: Manages the recruitment lifecycle for entry-level, including candidate evaluation, interview coordination, offer communication, and onboarding process initiation while ensuring a consistent, timely, and positive candidate experience.
  • Stakeholder Partnership & Advisory Support: Partners with business unit leaders, hiring teams, HR partners, and campus liaisons to understand hiring needs, provide recruiting expertise, and identify process enhancements that improve recruiting outcomes and candidate experience.
  • Campus Engagement: Coordinates and represents Marathon Petroleum at campus recruiting events, career fairs, information sessions, student organization engagements, networking events, and other university relations programs to strengthen student engagement.
  • University Partnership Management: Builds and maintains long-term relationships with target universities, career centers, faculty, student organizations, and campus partners to support strategic recruiting priorities and maintain access to qualified talent pipelines.
  • Program Operations & Intern/Co-op Experience: Supports campus recruiting operations and intern/co-op program activities, including event coordination, stakeholder communication, candidate engagement, and initiatives that support a positive entry-level talent experience.
  • Forecasting, Budgeting & Resource Planning: Facilitates entry-level hiring forecasting for assigned business areas and supports campus budget planning, sponsorship recommendations, and funding decisions in partnership with key internal stakeholders.
  • Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement: Maintains accurate applicant and candidate data within the Workday and uses recruiting metrics, applicant flow, market insights, and stakeholder feedback to evaluate effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Maintains awareness of recruiting trends, market conditions, and professional standards through participation in NACE, university relations forums, and other industry organizations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degreerequired.
  • Two (2) years of Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, University Relations or relevant Client Management experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of university/campus recruiting, internship/co-op programs, and entry-level talent acquisition practices is preferred.

TRAVEL:

  • Travel is required of this role, particularly during peak recruiting season (September-October and mid-January to end of February); can be up to 80-90% of the business week.Outside of the on-campus recruiting season, travel may be up to 30%.
