What is the difference between Entry Level Offshore Medical vs Offshore Medical Technician?

AspectEntry Level Offshore MedicalOffshore Medical Technician
CertificationsBasic medical training, CPR, First AidAdvanced medical certifications, EMT or paramedic license
Work EnvironmentOn offshore platforms, remote locationsOn offshore platforms, remote locations
Job ResponsibilitiesBasic health assessments, first aid, emergency responseMore complex medical procedures, patient monitoring

Entry Level Offshore Medical roles typically require basic medical training and focus on initial health assessments and emergency response. Offshore Medical Technicians have advanced certifications and perform more complex medical procedures. Both roles operate in similar offshore environments, but the Technician role involves higher responsibilities and specialized skills.

What is an entry level offshore medical?

Entry level offshore medical jobs are positions for healthcare professionals, such as medics, nurses, or EMTs, who provide medical care and first aid on offshore oil rigs, ships, or platforms. These roles involve responding to emergencies, conducting health checks, managing medical supplies, and ensuring workplace health and safety protocols are followed. Candidates typically need relevant medical qualifications, basic offshore safety training, and the ability to work in remote, challenging environments. These jobs serve as a starting point for a career in offshore or remote medicine.

What are the typical work schedules and living arrangements for entry level offshore medical personnel?

Entry level offshore medical professionals usually work on a rotational schedule, such as two weeks on the rig followed by two or three weeks off. While on duty, they live in shared accommodations onboard the platform, with meals and basic amenities provided. The work environment can be challenging due to isolation and long shifts, but it also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie among crew members. Medical personnel collaborate closely with other departments to respond to health concerns, emergencies, and promote overall wellness on the rig.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level offshore medical professional?

To thrive as an Entry Level Offshore Medical professional, you typically need a relevant medical qualification (such as EMT, paramedic, or nurse), basic life support (BLS) certification, and knowledge of emergency medical procedures. Familiarity with offshore safety protocols, medical equipment, and digital record-keeping systems like offshore medical databases is often required. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies are essential to ensure effective medical care, rapid response to emergencies, and the overall safety and wellbeing of offshore personnel.

Job description

Entry-Level (L1) IT Support Technician (Hybrid – Nassau/Long Island, NY)

We're looking for our next Level 1 IT Technician to join a tight knit Long Island managed services provider that has been at it for 17 years.  We thrive by staying nimble and never get stuck in "the old ways".  Rigid mindsets in IT will make you a dinosaur rather quickly.

We can teach you the technical side. What we can't teach is composure under pressure, inherent problem-solving skills, curiosity, and the instinct to actually help the person on the other end of the ticket. You must bring those with you.

If you've worked a job where the line was out the door and you still kept your head - food service, retail, anywhere the pace never let up - you can probably succeed here.

You'll be hands-on from day one: real tickets, real problems to solve, real people to help.

Requirements:

  • You're based in or near Nassau or western Suffolk County
  • You're able to drive anywhere between Long Island City and the forks for a client onsite if required
  • You've worked in a role that demanded people skills under real pressure
  • You're able to take direction from peers and leadership
  • You're genuinely curious about IT - not just looking for any job
  • You've proven you can handle a full plate, whether that's school plus work, multiple jobs, or a demanding shift

If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll do:

  • Be the first point of contact for our clients, building trust and delivering great experiences every interaction
  • Support desktops, laptops, Microsoft 365, and networks for local businesses across Long Island
  • Provide remote and onsite support, no two days are the same
  • Work through problems methodically: gather info, isolate the issue, leverage documentation, test your theory, fix it, document it
  • Communicate clearly with clients and teammates at every step, no one likes being left in the dark
  • Grow your technical skills and step up whenever you're needed

What you'll need:

  • Must live on Long Island (Nassau or western Suffolk preferred)
  • Reliable personal vehicle for client visits (mileage reimbursed)
  • A private, dedicated space for remote workdays
  • 0–2 years of IT support experience, self-taught counts, curiosity counts more
  • A natural troubleshooter: you think in steps and test assumptions, you DON'T guess your way through problems
  • Genuinely social and comfortable talking to anyone, from a nervous office manager to a frustrated business owner
  • Strong communicator who can translate tech speak into plain English without condescension
  • Microsoft 365 certifications are a plus
  • You want to build something with a team, not just fill a seat

What you'll get:

  • $50,000–$55,000 annually
  • A clear career track with a defined path to L2 as you grow your skills and experience
  • Hybrid role, a mix of remote days, in-office days and client-facing onsite visits
  • Hands-on training and real exposure to advanced IT systems
  • Medical, dental, vision, insurance (after 90 days probationary period)
  • 401k with company match (after 1 year)
  • Paid time off
  • The satisfaction of seeing your work make a tangible difference for businesses in your community
