How much do entry level nurse rn jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for entry level nurse rn in the United States is $38.62, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $29.57 and $43.27 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the difference between Entry Level Nurse Rn vs Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)?

AspectEntry Level Nurse RnLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Required CredentialsAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), RN licenseDiploma or Certificate in Practical Nursing, LPN license
Work EnvironmentHospitals, clinics, long-term care, community healthLong-term care facilities, clinics, hospitals (supervised roles)
Job ResponsibilitiesPatient assessments, administering medications, care planningBasic patient care, vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living

Entry Level Nurse Rns typically hold an RN license and have a broader scope of practice, including assessments and care planning. LPNs focus on basic patient care and assist RNs and doctors. Both roles work in similar healthcare settings, but RNs generally have more responsibilities and require higher credentials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Nurse RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Nurse RN, you need a solid grounding in nursing fundamentals, patient care, and clinical procedures, supported by a nursing degree and RN licensure. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), basic medical equipment, and hospital documentation systems is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and compassion help new nurses build trust and adapt quickly in clinical environments. These skills and competencies are vital for ensuring safe, efficient patient care and smooth integration into multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Entry-level nurse roles typically do not pay $4,000 a week without advanced certifications or specialized experience. High-paying jobs that can reach this level without a degree often include skilled trades like commercial truck driving, certain sales positions, or entrepreneurship, but these usually require specific skills, licenses, or significant experience. Most healthcare roles with such pay levels generally require advanced education or licensure beyond entry-level nursing.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level RN nurses during their first year, and how can they be managed?

Entry-level RN nurses often encounter challenges such as adjusting to fast-paced clinical environments, managing workload and time efficiently, and developing effective communication with patients and interdisciplinary teams. Many new nurses find it helpful to seek mentorship from experienced colleagues, actively participate in orientation programs, and engage in ongoing learning to build confidence. Open communication and asking questions when unsure can also ease the transition and promote safer, more effective patient care.

What does a 2 year RN make?

A registered nurse (RN) with two years of experience typically earns between $60,000 and $75,000 annually, depending on location, healthcare facility, and specialization. Salary can increase with additional certifications, skills, and responsibilities, especially in high-demand areas or specialized fields.

How to make an extra $2000 a month as a nurse?

Entry level nurse RNs can increase their income by taking on per diem or agency shifts, which often pay higher rates, or working overtime if available. Developing specialized skills in areas like IV therapy or wound care can also lead to higher-paying opportunities, especially with additional certifications. Scheduling multiple part-time jobs or working in high-demand settings can help reach the extra income goal.

Can I go straight to an RN with no experience?

Becoming an entry-level registered nurse (RN) typically requires completing an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. While prior healthcare experience can be beneficial, it is not usually a requirement to become an RN; however, employers often look for relevant clinical training and licensure. Direct entry into an RN role without any healthcare experience is uncommon, and most candidates gain experience through internships, externships, or related roles beforehand.

What are Entry Level Nurse RNs?

Entry Level Nurse RNs are registered nurses who are new to the nursing profession, typically having recently graduated from an accredited nursing program and passed the NCLEX-RN exam. They work in a variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, or nursing homes, providing direct patient care under the supervision of more experienced nurses or physicians. Their responsibilities include monitoring patients, administering medications, assisting with procedures, and educating patients and families about health conditions. Entry level RNs are expected to continue learning on the job and often participate in orientation or residency programs to build their skills and confidence.
