Geocomp is seeking an Instrumentation & Monitoring Technician to join our team in New York City, NY.

Geocomp's Instrumentation & Monitoring Services provide the implementation and operation of complex monitoring systems that help protect critical infrastructure during construction and operation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for installing geotechnical and structural monitoring systems for heavy civil infrastructure projects while supporting our Geo-Structural Engineering consulting practice. This role offers a combination of field and office work, depending on project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble instrumentation and dataloggers.
  • Install and commission data acquisition systems.
  • Perform field inspections of construction activities.
  • Supervise drill rigs, including soil sampling for geotechnical evaluations.
  • Prepare boring logs.
  • Install instrumentation in the field.
  • Download, process, and reduce field data.
  • Climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs when installing or decommissioning instrumentation.
  • Operate power and hand tools (including hammer drills, reciprocating saws, and wrenches).
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform field work, typically 2-3 days per week during the summer months.
  • Provide additional project support as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant educational background or work experience in sensors, mechanical, geotechnical, and/or structural engineering.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals and teams with diverse work styles.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to approximately 25% of the time.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Experience

  • Field construction experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with GIS and CAD software.
  • Experience with instrumentation installation and monitoring.

Physical Demands

The candidate must be able to climb ladders and lift or carry up to 50 lbs. This position may require working in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 10 feet. Some work will be performed in the field, where exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, varying temperatures and humidity, fumes, and construction equipment may occur.
