What You'll Do

  • Perform tire services, including mounting, dismounting, balancing, and rotations.
  • Perform oil changes and basic maintenance, including fluids, wipers, bulbs, batteries, and air and cabin filters.
  • Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections and repair order documentation accurately and thoroughly.
  • Identify safety-related issues and communicate findings through the proper store channels.
  • Conduct State Safety and Emission Inspections, where applicable, in an ethical manner and in line with all company and state guidelines under appropriate supervision.
  • Keep customer vehicles, the shop, service area, showroom, restrooms, and outside areas clean and customer-ready.
  • Transport customers and pick up parts, tires, and supplies using company or customer vehicles as directed.
  • Follow all safety procedures, use required PPE, comply with environmental and hazardous waste requirements, and report hazards or unsafe equipment to your supervisor.
  • Work collaboratively with technicians and service advisors, accept coaching, and participate in ongoing training and development.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed, and complete other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to Sun Auto's core values and all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

What We're Looking For

Required:

The right candidate is reliable, safety-focused, mechanically inclined, willing to learn, and ready to build foundational shop skills in a structured automotive service environment.

  • Strong interest or desire to work in the automotive repair industry.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn basic automotive maintenance and repair processes.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, safety standards, and store processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technicians, service advisors, and store leaders.
  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational or technical training school.
  • General knowledge of under-hood, mechanical, and undercarriage assemblies.
  • Previous shop, lube technician, tire technician, mechanical, customer service, or other hands-on work experience.
  • State Inspector License, in applicable locations, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire if required by the store.

General Service Technicians strengthen hands-on maintenance, inspection, documentation, safety, and shop operations skills while learning from more experienced technicians. This experience can support growth toward more advanced technical positions.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Automotive shop environment with exposure to moderate to loud noise, dust, exhaust fumes, lubricants, petroleum products, vapors, and caustic materials.
  • Temperature variations may include extreme heat and/or extreme cold.
  • Ability to stand up to eight hours per day and walk to access various areas of the building.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch regularly, with full range of motion in arms and hands.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds frequently.
  • Vision sufficient to detect color, depth, and refocus; use of safety goggles or other PPE as required.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, service advisors, managers, and shop teammates.
