Job description

Data Engineer

Downtown Music Publishing is seeking a Data Engineer to be a key contributor to the design, development, and management of our global music data platform and ecosystem that spans variable databases, technologies, products, and customers. This role will be responsible for advanced development of our enterprise data platform. The platform orchestrates the full lifecycle of our production data, including ingress, egress, storage, federation, lineage, insights, and analytics across multiple sources and targets, databases, API endpoints, products, dashboards, and reports. This position offers the ideal candidate an opportunity to be a thought leader and influencer within and across the department, company, and market.

**This position can be located remotely or in any of our offices in New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, or Portland, OR.** 

What you'll do: 
  • Collaborate with business, technology, and product teams to deliver data-driven products, services, and initiatives
  • Evaluate, design, build, implement, and manage scalable, cloud-based databases, frameworks, pipelines, integrations, and environments that facilitate the secure, automated management, governance, synchronization, workflow, analytics, and reporting of data across internal systems, products, customers, and 3rd party data providers 
  • Maintain, improve, and scale the company's enterprise data platform, a music rights data management, analytics, and workflow ecosystem 
  • Ensure compliance with industry data standards and best practices  
  • Develop, document, test, and manage logical and physical models as well as data lifecycle strategies and data-related SOPs
  • Create and maintain test data, and perform/test upgrades, code changes, and bug fixes
  • Manage daily monitoring of data jobs and queues and troubleshoot/resolve errors 
  • Share knowledge and promote the professional growth of team members through collaboration and mentorship
You are / have: 
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant data engineering experience in an enterprise production environment 
  • Bachelor's degree or demonstrable equivalent experience in a professional engineering or technical discipline such  as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics 
  • Expertise in RDBMS (PostgreSQL experience preferred) and at least one other relational or non-relational data platform (e.g., MongoDB, Snowflake, Redshift, etc.) 
  • Experience with data modeling, performance tuning, scalability/capacity planning, and backup/recovery
  • Experience designing, deploying, and managing production enterprise data on AWS using some/all of the following  AWS services: S3, EC2, ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, Glue, Elasticsearch, Kinesis 
  • Expertise in writing efficient and reliable SQL and Python code 
  • Experience with designing, developing, and managing custom ETL/ELT pipelines  
  • Experience creating, implementing, and using REST APIs  
  • Experience with automating the processing of XML, JSON, and delimited data files  
  • Experience with Data Warehouse / Data Lake design, BI reporting, and data visualization tools
  • Experience with Agile/CI software development methodologies 
  • Must be proactive in root cause analysis, problem solving, and mitigation 
  • Must be proactively communicative and possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Preferred Experience with music data and music data standards (DDEX, CWR)

Downtown provides base salary ranges for all positions located in the United States at the time of posting. The hiring range for this position up to $135,000 annually. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon various factors including, but not limited to, work experience, geographic location and relevant skills. Downtown is committed to providing a comprehensive market-competitive total rewards program for its employees which includes medical, dental, and vision, life insurance, 401(k) match and generous paid time off. This range does not include any other variable compensation components.
