MEMS Mechanical Engineer

About The RoleThe MEMS Group located in Wilmington, MA is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineerto join our MEMS Product Development team. This is an early-career Mechanical Engineer position focused on supporting characterization, testing, and development of MEMS-based inertial sensors and IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units). This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of mechanical design, test hardware, and data-driven analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support characterization of MEMS sensors and IMU systems across environmental conditions (temperature, vibration, shock)
  • Design and develop mechanical fixtures, and assemblies to support MEMS and IMU testing
  • Assist in designing and executing experiments to evaluate sensor performance
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot lab equipment (e.g., thermal ovens, vibration systems, data acquisition systems)
  • Document test methods, results, and procedures in a clear and reproducible manner

Qualifications

  • BS, or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Robotics or related field
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanics (stress, vibration, thermal effects)
  • Hands-on experience in a lab or test environment
  • Highly skilled in mechanical design using SolidWorks
  • Experience with scripting or automation (MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python) for data collection/analysis
  • Familiarity with programming electronic interfaces with test equipment and data acquisition instrumentation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
