Job description

  • POSITION PURPOSE
    • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Support Specialist performs tasks for patients, assists with the collection of patient data and performance of selected procedures, and performs activities in the department to promote comfort, safety, and a positive patient and staff experience. Complies with established standards and procedures.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • High School or Equivalent (GED) or completion of 11 of 12 years of high school education with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • Entry Level
  • LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • No prior experience required.  Training will be provided
  • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Under the direction of the nurse, perform patient care, treatments and procedures/activities within training and competence level. 
    • Provide the patient assistance with activities of daily living such as feeding ambulating, turning, and positioning.
    • Promptly and courteously respond to patient call lights and provide the patient assistance within the scope of the position. 
    • Routinely and consistently conduct patient care rounds and observe patient activity, notifying the nurse immediately when a change in patient condition is identified. 
    • Accurately and promptly document patient care activities in the medical record.
    • Recognize the occurrence of life-threatening situations and emergencies and take the appropriate actions in a timely manner.
    • Clean, organize, and restock the department work area and patient supply locations and evaluate supplies for integrity and expiration.  
    • Clean patient rooms and care areas to facilitate patient movement.
    • Complete all assigned education, training, and learning requirements within the scheduled time frame.
