Entry Level Mechanical Designer

Southfield, Michigan

$47,000 - $52,000 annually

A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking an Entry-Level Mechanical Designer to support project teams with mechanical drawings, technical documentation, BOMs, and project-related design documentation. This is a great opportunity for an entry-level candidate with CAD experience who is looking to grow their career in mechanical design and engineering.


The Entry-Level Mechanical Designer will work across multiple projects, supporting Project Engineers and project teams with drawings, parts/BOM information, work orders, and documentation required for fabrication.


Job Responsibilities

  • Read and understand mechanical detail drawings and technical documentation.
  • Utilize CAD software or drawing viewers to retrieve part and drawing information.
  • Develop spare parts lists from materials ordered for various projects.
  • Create project Advance Bills of Material (ABMs) and Work Orders based on direction from the Project Engineer.
  • Collect required drawings and sub-assembly drawings to send for fabrication.
  • Enter and retrieve parts/BOM information within a database.
  • Support multiple project teams and ensure required documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Develop maintenance procedures for various conveyor components and format them according to customer requirements.
  • Assist with developing Failure Mode Effects Analysis documents (FMEA & PFMEA) based on system drawings and sequence-of-operation information provided by Project Engineers.
  • Complete assigned tasks within project schedule deadlines, including overtime as required to meet project dates.


Education Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.


Qualifications

  • CAD experience required.
  • Experience reading mechanical drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • SQL, SharePoint, Dataverse, or Power Apps experience is a plus.
