(Star Pipe Products Ltd. has an opening in Houston, TX) Mechanical Design Engineer: Perform full lifecycle product development (design, develop, validation prototypes, 3rd party testing and implementation). Perform requirement analysis. Research functional requirements, relevant standards, patents and apply to new product design and modifications. Develop potential solution options. Design components that the performance and relevant standards requirement. Use 2D and 3D CAD Software such as AUTOCAD and INVENTOR. Prepare prototype and/or final product drawings. Collaborative with Supply chain team for cost, ease of manufacturing and sample development. Conduct experiments methodically, analyze data and interpret results. Performance simulation and FEA Analysis preferably ANSYS. Develop validation protocol, sensitivity analysis and partner with Lab and QC team in performing validation. Make observations related to dimensional, metallurgical, ease of assembly and functional. Develop improvement plan based on such observations. Incorporate and implement improvements as necessary. Document all design releases, test protocols, validation test reports and manage engineering drawing release or change release. Participate in new part code, bill or material and kit definitions. Assist PMG and Sales team to answer questions related to product application, suitability, submittal drawings and other related requirements. Participate with QC & Lab team to evaluate quality related customer issues. Assist supply chain team to clarify manufacturing or vendor quarries and support them with relevant data/drawings. Evaluate and test developed products from alternate sources. Work with QC to develop regularQC protocols. Alter and modify design to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions. Prepare product reports and documentation. Perform comparative study for competitors' products. Our business is mostly in water works industries. The products offered and designed include fittings, joint restraints, municipal castings and accessories (Gasket, fasteners, etc). Primary material designed is ductile iron, and with few items in other metal cast iron, stainless steel, rubber, etc. Many products require AWWA, ASTM standards compliance. UL, FM and NSF approvals are also necessary for many of our products. Requires Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field and 2 years experience in the job offered, or related. 2 years must include experience in a manufacturing environment.
