Recent advances at the European XFEL have led to lasing in a cavity-based X-ray free-electron laser oscillator (XFELO). This milestone opens new opportunities for X-ray generation and high-precision experiments. To advance the XFELO program to the next level, we are seeking a highly motivated Precision Mechanics Design Engineer to support a joint team of engineers and scientists from European XFEL and DESY.

For our Mechanical Engineering group we are looking for a Precision Mechanics Design Engineer

The Position
  • Contribute to the development, realization, and commissioning of ultra-precision mechanical systems for the new phase of the XFELO project
  • Perform computer-aided engineering tasks, including concept development, detailed mechanical design, structural and thermal assessment, and design optimization of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Take responsibility for the production and procurement of mechanical components, as well as for the assembly, testing, and installation of the designed mechanical systems
  • Participate in shift work in the control room during experimental testing and commissioning of XFELO mechanical systems with beam
  • Analyze technical experimental data, document results, and contribute to publications, internal reports, and technical notes.
