Payment Enablement Program
The Payment Enablement program provides a suite of value-added switching services to each qualified transaction processed by Mastercard, increasing the security, accessibility, and simplicity of data for participating customers.
Role:
As a Software Engineer II at Mastercard, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of software solutions that power critical business capabilities. You will work collaboratively with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, high-quality software while continuing to grow your technical expertise and business knowledge. You will independently execute assigned workstreams and contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives across the team.
Role Responsibilities
Participate in team prioritization discussions with Product and Business stakeholders to understand requirements and delivery objectives.
Estimate and deliver assigned work, including design, development, testing, deployment, configuration, and documentation activities.
Contribute to code, design, and process discussions, helping evaluate trade-offs and identify practical solutions.
Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and acceptance discussions with Product Owners and stakeholders.
Develop an understanding of the end-to-end technical architecture, business domain, and system dependencies related to supported applications.
Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services that meet security, scalability, resiliency, and performance requirements.
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to support code quality, maintainability, and engineering standards.
Support implementation of engineering best practices, technology standards, and established development frameworks.
Troubleshoot application, system, and production issues, working with team members to identify root causes and implement solutions.
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and operational readiness activities.
Support and guide new team members through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance team productivity.
Share knowledge, reusable components, patterns, and best practices across teams, guilds, and engineering communities.
All About You
Experience developing software applications using modern programming languages and development frameworks.
Understanding of software design principles, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms with the ability to build maintainable and scalable solutions.
Experience applying secure coding practices and familiarity with industry standards such as OWASP, CWE, and SEI CERT.
Knowledge of vulnerability management and experience utilizing code quality and security scanning tools such as Sonar, Checkmarx, Veracode, Zally, or similar solutions.
Understanding of core engineering principles required to build and operate mission-critical applications, including security, reliability, scalability, performance, operability, testing, and customer experience.
Experience designing and maintaining unit, functional, integration, and automated tests.
Familiarity with test automation concepts, behavior-driven development (BDD), and test pyramid methodologies.
Experience participating in code reviews and troubleshooting application and production issues within distributed systems.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and business stakeholders to estimate requirements and prioritize work based on business value.
Understanding of domain-driven design concepts and the ability to apply business requirements to software solutions.
Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and release automation tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, AWS pipelines, XL Release, or similar technologies.
Familiarity with build, artifact, and dependency management tools such as Artifactory, JFrog, or equivalent platforms.
Experience supporting application monitoring, observability, performance analysis, and operational health using industry-standard tools.
Experience building and supporting highly available production systems.
Experience with cryptography, encryption technologies, or security-focused applications is preferred.
Payment industry experience is preferred but not required.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.
Pay Ranges
O'Fallon, Missouri: $92,000 - $147,000 USD
