We are seeking a full-time Linux Systems Administrator for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for efficiently managing technology using tools and scripting as well as organizing, leading, and coordinating with other parts of IT to ensure components of overall system are managed.
Essential Functions
- Designs and develops complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance performance of Garmin’s Linux server computing systems
- Performs and evaluates costs analyses and vendor comparisons form small through large scale projects to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations. Measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations
- Continuously develops technical subject matter expertise on established and emerging server, storage, load balancer, and open source systems and other server technologies
- Communicates effectively regarding system operations and environment changes
- Adheres to SOX, PCI, and other regulatory requirements as dictated
- Understands and avoids capacity, redundancy, and health constraints of server, storage, load balancer, and other open source systems
- Ensures that all security requirements are met or exceeded, and appropriate levels of security access are monitored
- Demonstrates proficient use and knowledge of standards and procedures
- Serves as a mentor to less experienced IT Administrators (Administrator 1)
- Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques including performing root cause analysis and identification of corrective action for given problems
- Performs and plans minor version upgrades and uses tools and scripting to efficiently manage technology
- Identifies interdependencies in system and application components and makes recommendations for component level improvements
- Participates in roadmap planning for systems or applications and coordinates cross team non-project changes
- Provides 24x7 on-call support
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Ability to author and implement basic scripting and coding to automate technical needs such as to move files, backup, create configuration, or other tasks
- Demonstrates ability to solve moderately complex technical problems independently
- Demonstrated experience in successful implementation of technology solutions
- Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization
