Job Goal
The Paramedic Adjunct Instructor plays a critical role in preparing future paramedics by providing hands-on instruction, objective evaluation, and mentorship while ensuring students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors required for entry-level paramedic practice.
Qualifications
Minimum QualificationsCurrent National Registry Paramedic certification (or state equivalent).
- Current state Paramedic licensure/certification.
- Minimum of three years of field experience as a practicing paramedic.
- Demonstrated proficiency in paramedic psychomotor skills and patient care.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred QualificationsAssociate's degree or higher in EMS, healthcare, education, or a related field.
- Previous teaching, precepting, or EMS training experience.
- Current instructor certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS, BLS Instructor, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with CAAHEP/CoAEMSP accreditation standards and EMS educational best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Student DevelopmentInstruct students in the proper performance of psychomotor and clinical skills in accordance with current EMS standards, program objectives, and accreditation requirements.
- Demonstrate and reinforce correct techniques, procedures, and safety practices during laboratory and practical sessions.
- Provide coaching, remediation, and constructive feedback to facilitate student learning and skill mastery.
- Foster critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and professional behavior among students.
Student EvaluationEvaluate student performance during laboratory exercises, simulations, and practical skill sessions.
- Document student progress and competency attainment according to program policies.
- Identify students requiring additional support and communicate concerns to the lead instructor or program director.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and skill evaluations.
Essential Functions
Laboratory and Equipment SupportAssist students in locating, utilizing, and returning instructional equipment and training materials.
- Prepare laboratory environments and training stations prior to instructional activities.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with restocking consumable supplies used during skills training.
- Ensure equipment is maintained, cleaned, organized, and ready for instructional use.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
Psychomotor Examination SupportAssist with the administration of psychomotor examinations and competency assessments.
- Serve as an evaluator for practical examinations in accordance with program and accreditation standards.
- Ensure testing environments maintain fairness, consistency, and integrity.
- Participate in student remediation and retesting activities as assigned.
Professional ResponsibilitiesMaintain current knowledge of EMS practices, educational methodologies, and industry standards.
- Adhere to institutional policies, program requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and program activities as assigned.
- Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and a positive learning environment.
