Job description

Job Title: Laboratory Assistant I Location: Athens, GA Type: Contract Compensation: $23-$28/hr Work Model: Onsite – onsite Hours: 40.0 Overview Leading pharmaceutical company looking for an entry level Laboratory Assistant I. Ideal candidates should have a an Associates or Bachelors degree with at least 2+ years of laboratory experience within a research company or academic institution. As well as at least 1+ years of experience maintaining insect or ectoparasite colonies in a vivarium or insectary. Responsibilities

  • Assist laboratory team in insect rearing activities, daily lab maintenance, and contribute to internal drug screening activities.
  • Support daily insect husbandry activities, performing repetitive tasks independently once trained.
  • Contribute to daily operations for parasitology research, including reagent preparation, cleaning, consumables stocking, and assay steps.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, schedules, and supplies, placing orders as needed.
  • Ensure proper reception, storage, and disposal of laboratory materials.
  • Initiate and complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Operate automation software and equipment with minimal support over time.
  • Perform activities in compliance with safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and Good Scientific Practice standards.

Requirements

  • College coursework in biology or equivalent; advanced degrees such as MS or PhD are not considered for this role.
  • Experience in insect or ectoparasite rearing and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform activities using aseptic techniques.
  • Reliable work attitude and meticulous laboratory work execution.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills for effective team interaction.
  • 2+ years of laboratory experience within a research company or academic institution.
  • 1+ years of experience maintaining insect or ectoparasite colonies in a vivarium or insectary.
