Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Local IT Infrastructure & Shopfloor Support Engineer is responsible for the stable, secure, and efficient operation of the local IT infrastructure across two automotive production plants.
This role ensures reliable 1st and 2nd level support for end users, shopfloor systems, servers, and network infrastructure, acting as the primary local IT contact between production, central IT, and external service providers.

The position has a strong operational focus and plays a critical role in maintaining production continuity and IT service quality in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Local IT Infrastructure Operations

  • Operate and maintain the local IT infrastructure at two production sites
  • Ensure high availability of servers, networks, and end-user systems
  • Perform regular system checks, patching, and maintenance activities
  • Support implementation of global IT standards and policies at site level 

1st & 2nd Level Support (End User & Infrastructure)

  • Provide 1st and 2nd level IT support for office and production users
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues
  • Support Windows clients, peripherals, mobile devices, and shopfloor PCs
  • Escalate complex incidents to 3rd level or central IT when required 

Server & Network Administration

  • Administer local server infrastructure (physical and virtual)
  • Operate and monitor LAN/WAN, switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi networks
  • Support Active Directory, user management, and access controls
  • Ensure backup, recovery, and basic disaster recovery procedures

Shopfloor IT & Production Systems

  • Ensure stable operation of shopfloor IT systems and production-related applications
  • Support industrial PCs, scanners, printers, terminals, and label systems
  • Act as IT interface for MES, ERP, and machine connectivity topics
  • Provide rapid on-site support for production-critical IT incidents

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce IT security policies at local site level
  • Support audits and compliance requirements (e.g. IATF , TISAX)
  • Ensure secure handling of user accounts, systems, and production data

Coordination & Documentation

  • Coordinate local IT activities with central IT teams and external vendors
  • Manage local IT service providers and hardware suppliers
  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, network diagrams, and procedures
  • Support IT projects such as upgrades, rollouts, and site expansions

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

Professional Experience

  • Several years of experience in local IT infrastructure or IT support roles
  • Experience in manufacturing or automotive production environments preferred
  • Hands-on experience with shopfloor IT and production-critical systems
  • Two (2) year degree in related computer sciences

Language Skills

  • Good English skills
  • Good Spanish skills would be an advantage

Personal Skills

  • High sense of responsibility and service orientation
  • Ability to work independently in an operational environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills with both IT and production users
  • Willingness to provide on-site support and occasional off-hours support

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Windows client and server environments
